Azalin
Thanks. I had such a great weekend planned and you just ruined it. He only suggested that they could be running mates. It could have been a lot worse - at least they're not making a porno. Try getting that image out of your head.

B-Man
The slow takeback continues.......................... Scott Walker signs civil service overhaul. Gov. Scott Walker signed legislation Friday overhauling the state’s century-old system of merit hiring and firing, gaining the first legislative priority he set after calling off his presidential bid last year. Inking the legislation at the offices of ManpowerGroup, Walker said the rewrite of the state’s civil service law would help the state keep the best possible employees and ensure that the state remains “efficient, effective and ultimately accountable to the people of Wisconsin.” “This is really about bringing Wisconsin into the 21st century when it comes to recruitment and retention,” the Republican governor said. Walker said the state needed to learn from the private sector hiring practices of companies like Manpower, a global human resources giant, and update its policies for hiring, overseeing and firing the 30,000 state workers affected by the changes. Walker said the state is keeping its principles of hiring according to merit rather than politics, but is updating a system that had become too slow and inefficient. It’s time to face up to the reality that the 19th Century notion of an apolitical professional civil service is dead. What we have now is a politicized monoculture in support of one party and one agenda. Can we start on the federal level next ?
TPS
I don't get worked up over Gator insulting me, not by a long shot. For insults to hurt they have to have either truth or wit behind them. Gator lacks in both his ability to tell the truth and to deliver anything deemed witty. Believing Gator serves any function on this board other than comic relief where people laugh AT him (not with him) just shows you're not paying attention. So who's really clueless? The guy (you) who believes everyone here is a regressive dolt if their politics differ from your own, or the guy calling an asshat out for being an asshat. this response should win the "unintentionally ironic" award. It’s time to face up to the reality that the 19th Century notion of an apolitical professional civil service is dead. What we have now is a politicized monoculture in support of one party and one agenda. Can we start on the federal level next ? Yes...the media used to be known as the "4th estate". It has been supplanted by the Federal Bureaucracy...which has become the 4th branch of government above the other 3. This is not Imperial China. On one hand that's good, because unlike back then we know what we are supposed to be doing instead: following the Constitution, which means abolishment of all czars, a return of sole administrative power to the cabinet and POTUS, and Senate confirmation of the cabinet. On the other hand that's bad, because back then you could just do what various Chinese emporers did: execute all of the bureaucrats in a day, and start over. In all cases, taking the 4th branch on is not going to be easy. Any President or Congressperson attempting to reform government is up against people with EVERYTHING to lose. Contrary to Hollywood and bad crime novel writers everywhere: people with everything to lose are capable of much more evil than those with nothing. A person with nothing to lose doesn't value themselves that much, and thus their end doesn't mean that much, and doesn't effect anyone else. A person with everything to lose fights 5x as hard because their end means a lot to themselves and others, and they know it. There is one way to win, and it's the same way Reagan won: trust the American public, genuinely, then bring your ideas to them, convince them, and defeat the other side using their overwhelming support...that you've earned. If the next Potus can make it them vs. Lois Lerner? We have a genuine shot at reform.

The holder of your loan can take other actions to collect as well." Those "other actions" involve withholding your tax refund or, in some cases, garnishing your wages. And, this week in Texas, they began to involve federal agents in combat gear bursting into debtors' houses and arresting them. That's what happened to Paul Aker. Seven armed U.S. marshals arrived at his door in Houston last Thursday, arrested him on the spot, and took him to jail. He owed all of $1,500, outstanding since 1987. Aker told Fox 26 that without any warning, his 29-year-old debt was forcibly being collected; the marshals took him to federal court and made him sign a payment plan. “It was totally mind-boggling,” Aker told Fox 26. DC Tom
Wtf?? Are you !@#$ing kidding me that federal tactical teams are going around on delinquent federal student loan debtors?? Wtf man No, they're going around enforcing warrants for contempt of court. Those contempt charges happen to stem from failures to respond (not comply with, just respond) to court orders to repay debts. What's crazy is it's effectively a criminal charge issued judicially in civil court. What's REALLY crazy is that as a result, they throw you in jail until you respond to the court order - which, since you're in jail, DOES mean "comply with." So you're jailed until you repay the debt...which you can't realistically do, because you're in jail. So either your friends and family pay your debt and get you out, or you rot in jail. Welcome back, debtors' prison.

B-Man
Wtf?? Are you !@#$ing kidding me that federal tactical teams are going around on delinquent federal student loan debtors?? Wtf man THE UNITED STATES OF S.W.A.T.: U.S. Marshals Are Arresting People in Texas Who Have Outstanding Student Loans FTA: It’s not controversial that the Secret Service and the Bureau of Prisons have them. But what about the Department of Agriculture, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Office of Personnel Management, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service? All of these have their own SWAT units and are part of a worrying trend towards the militarization of federal agencies — not to mention local police forces. “Law-enforcement agencies across the U.S., at every level of government, have been blurring the line between police officer and soldier,” journalist Radley Balko writes in his 2013 book Rise of the Warrior Cop. “The war on drugs and, more recently, post-9/11 antiterrorism efforts have created a new figure on the U.S. scene: the warrior cop — armed to the teeth, ready to deal harshly with targeted wrongdoers, and a growing threat to familiar American liberties.” The proliferation of paramilitary federal SWAT teams inevitably brings abuses that have nothing to do with either drugs or terrorism. Many of the raids they conduct are against harmless, often innocent, Americans who typically are accused of non-violent civil or administrative violations. Take the case of Kenneth Wright of Stockton, Calif., who was “visited” by a SWAT team from the U.S. Department of Education in June 2011. Agents battered down the door of his home at 6 a.m., dragged him outside in his boxer shorts, and handcuffed him as they put his three children (ages 3, 7, and 11) in a police car for two hours while they searched his home. The raid was allegedly intended to uncover information on Wright’s estranged wife, Michelle, who hadn’t been living with him and was suspected of college financial-aid fraud. And now US Marshals are now swinging into action to arrest people who have defaulted on their student loans. Where does it end? .

Deranged Rhino
I'm only saying this half tongue in cheek, some of the crazy conspiracy theories I've heard or read don't sound as crazy as I remember them being at the time. Don't tell that to the anti UWEX16 guys I hear you, I'm just having fun too. There are plenty of "conspiracy theories" that are more true than our "reality". The evidence is overwhelming in most cases. There are also plenty of "conspiracy theories" that are batshit crazy (perhaps intentionally so, drummed up by TPTB to make all other "conspiracy" theories tainted by association). The fact is our reality is manipulated on a daily basis by everything from the corporate media, MSM, et al. The goal is to not only shout down any reasonable discussion about uncomfortable truths, but to keep us all fighting against one another because it keeps us deaf dumb and blind to the game going on right before our eyes. A game we pay for in blood and treasure but aren't allowed to participate or enjoy the spoils of. One day people will wake up. Lots are already. Nanker
Sure. But it's a Dem doing it to a Dem-run city. They'll suck it up and take it like a good lemming. Now, if it were a Republican President that said something like, "Hey, NYC - drop dead." Now that would raise some hackles and gain traction in the press immediately.
