unbillievable Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I've lived in one house or another my entire life and no one has ever mentioned to me that you're supposed to flush your water heater at least once a year. I know my parents never did it. Does everyone know to do this? What other things am I supposed to do around the house?
4merper4mer Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I'd just get rid of it the normal way. If you try to flush it I don't think it will go down.
BringBackFergy Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I would add a box of Raisin Bran, a few Fiber gummies and 5 Tbl of Miralax. It will clean it out real good.
Marv's Neighbor Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Is it working well???? Then don't mess with it!

dpberr Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Yes and no. First off, it depends on the water heater. If you've got some $300 model, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're on well water with PSI below 80 and you have a water softener, you don't have to do it every year. If you're on municipal water where you've got PSI greater than 80 and your water isn't conditioned, it wouldn't hurt. There are some nice videos on Youtube on how to safely flush a water heater. To be honest, the biggest question is whether you have a drain or sump pit nearby to run the hose to.
