BuffaloBill Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Ok I will refrain from saying why at the moment but I am seriously wondering if Utica is a good place to live or is it the cesspool some suggest it is through the Internet boards? This is a serious question.
PromoTheRobot Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I lived there in the early 80's. It's always been an economically depressed place. But it's also full of fun people. I guess Utica is what you make of it. They have their own town ski lift and a small zoo. The Stanley Theater still gets good shows. And they're are many excellent places to eat. Utica used to be (maybe still is) a place where the NY Mob would send hoods that had to cool off.
The Poojer Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 didn't utica just get some large chunk of state money for tech development? wouldn't surprise me if it starts to revitalize the area and start attracting younger folks who enjoy transforming formerly depressed areas.
Chandemonium Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 They have a Bass Pro so it's got one thing going for it Buffalo doesn't. I've never lived there but I've visited a few times and liked it well enough. The Matt brewery (saranac, Utica club) alone makes it worth a visit but I wouldn't move there because of it, unless of course I was taking a position there.
KD in CA Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Do they still have the Blue Sox? I went to a game there in the early 90s. It was like Bull Durham. I suspect real estate is slight cheaper than you're used to now!
Chandemonium Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 If I were to move to Utica, I think I would rather live in the sticks somewhere and commute in, but that would be my preference with just about any city.

BringBackFergy Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I have relatives from that area...they live in Clinton which is close to Utica I think. Haven't heard anything bad about the place. Good luck.

I suspect real estate is slight cheaper than you're used to now! Cal Ripken Jr bought them and moved them.... Born and raised there, now live in LA (visit family every year during the holidays). There are plenty of good places to eat and it is okay to live there; cheap and affordable place to live. Can live in new Hartford or Clinton a little pricier to live, but nicer... It's like everywhere else, good parts, bad parts, cesspools and no cesspools... Edited January 19, 2016 by Reed83HOF
PastaJoe Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Utica is an older, somewhat economically depressed area that is making progress in bringing in new tech business. It's about a 10-15 minute drive on the Thruway to the Oneida Nation Turning Stone casino and golf course, which is a very nice development, and about 30 minutes to Syracuse.
Nervous Guy Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Ok I will refrain from saying why at the moment but I am seriously wondering if Utica is a good place to live or is it the cesspool some suggest it is through the Internet boards? This is a serious question. I understand...CT is a tough state for tough people... right GG? I'm ready to GTFO of here too, this state is going down hill fast.
BringBackFergy Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I understand...CT is a tough state for tough people... right GG? I'm ready to GTFO of here too, this state is going down hill fast. Where? CT? I thought CT was Hollywood east? Ya know...rich, famous, big houses, lots of dough.
Nervous Guy Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Where? CT? I thought CT was Hollywood east? Ya know...rich, famous, big houses, lots of dough. 50% of residents say they'd move out ASAP if they could....high taxes (on everything), big companies all moving out due to it...don't even get me started on the governor...great looking state if you have money to burn and don't need a job.

mead107 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Is that your house for sale on Goodsell Hill RD.? $1,225,000.00 Don't want to move to Boston with GE? You could buy a bigger house in Utica
Gugny Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I bet he's going to Utica to start a pizza trailer or something stupid like that.
