I remember that play. That hit was vicious.

Most people either don't know, or don't remember, but Hostetler played on the Giants special teams units.

So'd Frank Reich.

Of course, he was just a holder...

Unitas and Favre

Guy lost his father and played the game of his life 2 days later.

Now thats mental toughness

CBF

Mental toughness? In that case, Bradshaw beats everyone. He played with half a brain.

Brett Favre is my #1

Terry Bradshaw was a tough SOB, even in the The Cannonball Run.

Kenny "The Snake Stabler" should on the list.

I thought Fran Tarkington was pretty tough and some would say Phil Simms cuz like a Timex watch he took a licking and kept on ticking.

These are the people on my list as well

I'm a little shocked this has gone on for 3 pages with no one coming up with the answer since it really isn't close for second place. The sheep's clothing aside the toughest QB in NFL history is Eli Manning. He has never missed a game due to injury in 11 seasons. He won his team a title with his toughness alone (see '11 NFC championship). You don't see him fighting though injuries since he somehow doesn't sustain them in spite of being willing to hang in the pocket until the last second every snap. You don't even see him playing dinged up. Guy is indestructible.

Hostetler has to be on this list just for holding onto the ball while

Bruce Smith was tackling him in the endzone in SB XXV.

Manning times 3. Eli, Peyton AND Archie.

Billy Joe Holbert had the sack to go in a game without studying the game plan. That's pretty tough.

Fergy

Jim plunkett

Honorable mention to Kyle Orton during his last season.

This was in college, obviously, but this will always stick in my mind as the greatest single moment of QB toughness.
