Formerly Allan in MD Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Either Brees or Rivers will likely be traded, cap hit notwithstanding. The back-ups value will diminish the longer he sits on the bench. Right now, SD will be able to get a number one (and possibly more) for either one of them. This could certainly impact on who the Bills are able to bring in, since there will be one less team looking for a back-up, unless SD winds up going after the same guys the Bills are seeking for back-up purposes. Of course, if Brees goes, SD will likely be looking for someone with experience, as the Bills will be. It'll be interesting.

Formerly Allan in MD Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 It will. But didn't they re-ink Flutie last year? 243757 Not sure. But Flutie remaining in SD could certainly be a plus for the Bills, in this context.
Alaska Darin Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 It will. But didn't they re-ink Flutie last year? 243757 He's still under contract and is planning on being in SD this season. They interviewed him on ESPN Radio when he was at the SB playing in his band.
sfladave Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 All of the quotes I have read by AJ Smith state that he intends to keep both players this year, and may even franchise Brees again next year.

BuffaloRebound Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Here's what SD should do: tell Brees they'll sign him to a long term deal but he ain't getting a signing bonus since the reason they took Rivers is that Brees sucked for 3 years. Trade Rivers and eat the cap hit, and everyone's happy.
stuckincincy Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Meaning the choice of Rivers was a GARGANTUAN mistake. 243882 That would assume that they knew that Brees would rise from the dead.
