Doc Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 If one owned an NFL team, why would you hire Marrone knowing that he quit on another team and took his golden parachute the way he did. This is St. Doug, we are talking about - not Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Nick Saban . . . . There are plenty of other candidates out there without having to hire someone who quit on his team/owner. Marrone miscalculated big time. He obviously has not given a satisfactory explanation re what happened to any of the owners/teams with whom he has interviewed. That's because there is no satisfactory answer.
Peter Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 That's because there is no satisfactory answer. Clearly.
Coach Tuesday Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Guy took bad advice Well you raise an interesting angle. Perhaps the reason Sexon is so committed to the Doug Marrone Hype Machine is because it was Sexton who promised Marrone that he'd find him new and greener pastures. Now Sexton is doing everything he can to salvage that debacle...
Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I hear ya, and have heard the similar story. What ,if any, would of been the financial difference if the Bills had fired him vs him quitting? Again, i am not saying Pegs wanted to fire him. Coaching contracts are guaranteed. When Marrone quit I think he had two years left on his deal. He got $4m for not coaching but by quitting he doesn't get the guarantee. So if he was fired Pegula would have owed him $8m not $4m. I think, but don't know, that Pegula wanted him to quit. Especially after the demands he made.

Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Why?Because Pegula is a guy who loves to be loved and most everyone at OBD thought Marrone was an arrogant ass and treated people in the building like crap. Plus most everyone with eyes could see that Marrones alleged expertise was a failure and what he stayed away from was the strength of the team.

Beerball Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I think, but don't know, that Pegula wanted him to quit. Especially after the demands he made.i agree with this, but I'm not so sure that Team Pegula didn't have this same wish before the offseason meeting. Maroon's demands only solidified their decision. JMO (obviously ok?)
Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Oh, I thought you had an actual reason. My bad.Pegula got rid of LaFontaine because he didn't like how LaFontaine conducted his business when the cameras weren't on. And LaFontaine was beloved by the public. Marrone not so much.
Mr. WEO Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 i agree with this, but I'm not so sure that Team Pegula didn't have this same wish before the offseason meeting. Maroon's demands only solidified their decision. JMO (obviously ok?) What were Marrone's unreasonable demands?
Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 What were Marrone's unreasonable demands? Extensions for himself and his offensive assistants after they performed terribly?
FireChan Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Pegula got rid of LaFontaine because he didn't like how LaFontaine conducted his business when the cameras weren't on. And LaFontaine was beloved by the public. Marrone not so much. Is that another hunch or?
Mr. WEO Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Extensions for himself and his offensive assistants after they performed terribly? First winning record in years. Would Rex get an extension in this circumstance, let alone get his failed coach brother an overt patronage job?
Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 First winning record in years. Would Rex get an extension in this circumstance, let alone get his failed coach brother an overt patronage job? Dumb question. Rex only coached one year. Would love to see the link. You won't. Got the information from a person directly in the know who you have heard of many times. The fact Marrone was hated at OBD has been widely reported and there are links.

TheFunPolice Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I love that Marrone called a meeting with Tim Graham at the airport, mafia style. Some part of me wonders if his "St. Doug" persona is some twisted sense of humor, or an act. After all, how could anyone be that freaking arrogant with his record? I mean, if St. Doug won 3-4 Super Bowls and a couple National Titles in college I could see him having the stones to summon reporters to private meetings to shake them down before heading out of town for a game. In a way it would be hilariously over the top. Apparently, quitting your HC job only works if you are Mike Mularkey. LOL
Kelly the Dog Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Whaley?!?!?! The pieces are falling into place....Nope. Not him.

LOL The truth is, everyone knew the Bills' FO was a mess when Mularkey quit, and Mularkey was always a good guy. He took his medicine for "opting out" but never burned bridges. Maybe he'll be successful in his next go-around as a HC, maybe not, but he couldn't be a more different guy than Marrone.
