Crossman appears safe?

I always knew Michael Hamlin was a hack. Good riddance.

I was waiting for this. Sign of a solid cohesive forward thinking FO

Not to worry, Rob will cast his shadow over the special team units as well.

Now thats funny for all the wrong reasons.

well done

although i expected Crossman to be replaced im not completely surprised by this as their coverage units were pretty good this year and with kick returning a lost art in the NFL coverage is what really matters with special teams units...the penalties are a team problem not just a special teams problem

there are bigger problems with this team than special teams

ST were a pretty major problem Max.

So people are calling for Crossman's head because:

Carpenter sucked.

Our punt returners were incapable of catching the ball too many times.

We still ended up with average ST statistics (take a look at the teams at the very top (DET, CHI, CLE, DAL) and the very bottom (NE, CAR) of those stats, by the way).

I'm no Crossman fan, but let's not pretend he's the reason this team sucked.

I am certainly not pretending. its not his first suck fest either.

Look at how many players Bills retain for special teams play perhaps. Guys that can play a little bit of Offense and D.

Marrone and Whaley gave him a sweet group that cannot start in the vital position groups of O and Defense.

Hogan. there ya go. he starts offensively.

Marrone spoiled Danny Boy and last year they sucked. like really sucked, till Powell started returning

so everyone says defense failed because of injuries, what about special teams? without consistent special teamers how did we fill the ranks?

yeah, we kept two kickers and both were less than spectacular - in fact very average... yeah.

Here is one for you back

Since your vocabulary when you visit this board is basically "bills suck" and "fire everybody" which is the same tired theme with your sorry ass........you might be better finding another team to follow that makes you happier?

and some further wisdom since you certainly need it......continuing to hire and fire everyone does not really help make a team better.....it really doesnt. You have to give people you hire a chance to work.

Simmer down, internet tough guy. Its just football.

And I have news for you...the bills do suck. And have for a long time. Saying that doesn't make me any more or less of a fan. Just less delusional.

Continuity for the sake of continuity isn't what makes a team better either. Hiring the right people does. They haven't done that in a long time and the sooner they do, the better off the team will be. Which I think we can all agree is what everyone here wants.

Yes, they were number one in kickoff average allowed. Now, about that roster spot that's taken by a kickoff specialist. The Bills were 17th in number of touchbacks. Stats I'm looking at don't show percentages though with the Bills just over 50% (42 of 82)

Cut the crap with the grammar police antics. Most of us are damn right plenty educated around these parts. Everytime someone starts correcting grammar they sound like a complete fool. People come here for fun and most are pecking from an iphone- lighten up bro

Thanks for your input, grammar police police.

What do you love of him as a Bill?

Also, FIRE Crossman!! He uses too many roster spots for below average. Geepers, if we didn't pay him a cent or he paid us I wouldn't want him on the roster. Seriously!!

I agree Whaley and Marrone spoiling Crossman with players. This is something that is in need of repair this offseason!

You mean there is a double Crossman?

awful. just awful

Few things ive noticed regarding special teams.

1 - The blocking on kickoffs is tough - and 9/10 its in the endzone. Just keep it there, the extra 3 or 4 yards isnt worth possitbly losing 10 with stupid penalties and poor returns.

2 - Punt coverage - Blocking in the back is ridiculous. Need someone on our staff to directly address this. It ruins good returns, and occaisionally hurts us on bad ones too.

3 - Penalties - Get rid of the ST gunners who keep making these bone headed plays. Basically Ron Brooks, and bench Hogan from returns.

4 - Kickers - Carpenter struggled, and needs to be replaced. No KOS, its a waste of a roster spot (and gameday active spot for a rotational player)

5 - Punters - Schmidts pretty good here. I've read that NFL punters are learning new punt styles and messing with returners ( having balls fall away, knucklers, low kicks, ones that switch field sides). That's actually kind of cool when you think about it, and probably why punt returns have been down all around.

The thing is, every team does this. I don't understand why. It's ridiculous when you see a replay and wonder wtf the guy was thinking hitting him in the back. Must be something about the speed and recklessness of ST.
