Why isn't Brent Musberger calling this game?

because he is a terrible, melodramatic blowhard; is that enough ?

Watson is just a SO; great upside on this kid.

Great game! Clemson just made too many mistakes to win though. And if they didn't have their QB (Deshaun..sp?), they probably would have lost by about 30.

But they really need to think about starting this game earlier (East coast should rule!....LOL). The game ended at 12:18am.....that is ridiculous.

ETA: Oh, and like I said in the Shout Box last night, I had no idea who Ciara was/is, but I thoroughly enjoyed eyeballing her rack, and all these do-gooders are probably just jealous! ;-)

Congrats Bama and great game. Clemson totally lit up the Bama D - special teams was the difference. In the film room they said that Clemson was 126 out of 128 teams on ST this season. Showed up last night.

Watson was amazing! Who is the favorite for the heisman next year, Fournette, mccaffrey or Watson?

Fantastic game and it again reminded me of why I prefer college football to the NFL.

A few thoughts on the game:
-Deshaun Watson is an absolute monster. He is going to be a great pro QB.
-I pass on Reggie Ragland. He looked too slow for the speed of that game.
-I'm not sold on Henry as a pro (at all). With that being said what an amazing year from him.
-Saban is the GOAT. That onside kick seeled it for me.
-I love Dabo and his energy. I would send my kids to play for either of these guys 8 days a week.
-The game was played hard but clean. I saw a tweet last night that said "I've watched 2 games this week Pitt-Cincy and the National Championship and one was played by men, the other children." It summed up my feelings.

agree on all that and as to last point, I posted that after the game Sat night in Cincy that you almost never see the meltdowns, dirty hits, stupidity or loss of composure in CFB that you see in the NFL yet they aren't even full-fledged adults.

Good game. I was hoping Clemson would win. I tend to root for teams who haven't won in a while over teams who win all the time. Plus it's always nice to see the SEC knocked down a peg. But entertaining nonetheless.

Clemson was the third youngest team in cfb I believe - they could very well be back next year IMO. Watson is too good. Dabo is a great recruiter too and they will be hungry.

I'm a Bama fan (and alumnus!) and follow them closely. Ragland had a tough game, most of the year he was stellar, wouldnt be suprised if he was playing hurt last night. He's a good LB for rex's system, it would not surprise me, if RR fell to our spot, that we draft him. OTOH, i'm very against overdrafting players because of the quality of team they were on. Alabama's D made all those guys look better. The point about Henry is good too. I mean, he's a physical specimen, but when his first hole/play design blows up, he's not proven himself great at the 2nd cut or improvising. Frankly Kenyon Drake might be a better pro back if he can keep his limbs attached to his body.

Overall it was a really great game, easily the best game I've watched this year college or pro.

Is it just me or does it always seem like, while lacking perfection, the college refs are much less involved in the outcome of games?

Totally agree. Seem to be fewer phantom PI calls in college and the instant replay system seems to work better, too.

And by the way, I LOVED that onside kick! The chances of recovering are actually quite high when the other team is not expecting it (i.e., the kicking team is not in desperation mode).

And, most importantly, they play a cupcake schedule every year.

The targeting rules do a lot to stop that, I think. The NFL could do well to adopt something similar.

I think a lot of it has to do with what's on the line for them. It's easier (not easy...just easier) to maintain discipline when these kids are fighting tooth and nail to get into the NFL, and any type of suspension puts a magnifying glass on them. Once they're in the NFL and they have the money (especially the guys who are on their second contract), that fear goes away.

Also, the top schools have rosters that are filled with athleticism and talent. Sure, there's a drop-off between starters and backups, but it's not close to the NFL. Suspending and even kicking players off the team is way easier in CFB. Of course all bets go out the window when you're talking about the superstar types like Winston, who tend to get that "benefit of the doubt" more often than their teammates.

also, college coaches exercise more control over their players than NFL coaches just due to the nature of age, money, etc. Edited by YoloinOhio
