YoloinOhio Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Found this interesting from a Bills perspective considering how they developed success with the deep ball this season. Bucky Brooks commented it is becoming like the 3-pointer in basketball. Unleash it Deep http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/01/07/nfl-playoffs-deep-passes-offense-arizona-cardinals-pittsburgh-steelers-carolina-panthers With the league trending toward dink and dunk in recent years, three of the NFLs best offenses are taking a different tack: big throws, big risks, big plays and big wins
Coach Tuesday Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Martavis Bryant was a 4th round pick out of Clemson in 2014 - I knew that already, but I saw it in the article and it distracted me. Does that mean that we could've had Bryant (alongside Watkins) instead of Bryce Brown? And you know that they were scouting Bryant plenty, because they were scouting Watkins at Clemson...

The 4th we have up for Bryce was in 2015.
Kelly the Dog Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Yep. Nope. no, we could have had him instead of Ross Cockrell though. The 4th we have up for Bryce was in 2015. Thank you. But a lot of deep passes that look right on the money are because the receiver is great at tracking it and knowing where it is going to land and then adjusting speed to get to that spot. A lot of receivers suck at it. Sammy is great at it.

Ah, that's right - thanks for the clarification. The Bryce Brown 2015 4th was what we could've used to acquire Brandon Marshall, reportedly.

It was not a good trade for Bills in retrospect, but Bryce did have to start a few games in 2014 with Fj and CJ both hurt.
mannc Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 no, we could have had him instead of Ross Cockrell though. The 4th we have up for Bryce was in 2015. Let's face it: the Steelers are better at identifying WRs than the Bills. They drafted Bryant in the 4th (after we picked Cockrell) in 2014 and Markus Wheaton in 2013, one selection after we picked Goodwin.

They constantly come up with good receivers and usually running backs.

Did you see Antonio Brown's stats when Roethlisberger wasn't playing? With Roethlisberger he averaged 135+ yards per game, without him a little under 59 yards per game. It's the difference from being an OK WR with 940 yards to being the all time leader by a mile in single season yardage with 2,160... Just saying Edited January 7, 2016 by matter2003

Just saying Let's make sure I understand: You're "just saying" that the Bills didn't really miss on Martavis Bryant, even though they had to have seen a ton of film on him in the course of scouting Sammy, because Bryant would be JAG in Orchard Park? And you're "just saying" that Marquis Goodwin would be really productive and healthy if Big Ben was throwing him the ball? Got it.
YoloinOhio Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) I would love Bryant as a #2 on this team and a 4th rd pick is great value for his production as its been in the 'Burgh. However there was a high drop rate percentage I believe attached to him and his pro day was awful, plus he had character flags which have come to fruition in the NFL. Still wish he had been taken in 4th but just some possible reasons as to why he wasn't taken higher by anyone. Edited January 7, 2016 by YoloinOhio
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Sound familiar? Even if Palmer says it took some nudging to truly embrace the mentality his new head coach demands, Arians assures that it didn’t take much. “I never had to do that with him,” Arians says, chuckling. “He likes throwing it downtown, and that’s why we got him. He’s one of the best deep-ball throwers I’ve ever seen. There are still times when it’s like third-and-three, and we’ll have a choice route wide open, and he’s taking a shot down the field. It’s usually right on the money and we’re completing it, so I can only B word for a second.”

Ruthlessbooger and Brown practice and play enough together that, in any given situation, each knows what the other is likely to do. Each trusts the other implicitly to execute in a certain, specific way, because each has seen the other do that over and over. Swap either of them out, and the other suffers.

Chandler#81 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 the Homer in me thinks they went way out of their way Not to mention who the #1 team was for long completions and no mention of Tyrod. Without doubt, our running game had DB's cheating up a lot. That's how 'taking the top off' works. Anyway, that team in Buffalo does this too..
