Chef Jim Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Saw this bad boy New Years Day from the Bay Bridge. We're thinking of heading down to the harbor this morning for closer look see. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Biggest-cargo-ship-to-ever-grace-S-F-Bay-is-here-6730044.php
Chef Jim Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Thought you meant the Irondequoit Bay Bridge Imagine that sucker on one of the lakes.
boyst Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Titanic was 883'. Beerballs mouth just watered. He thinks feet, not inches.
Steve O Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Imagine that sucker on one of the lakes. tried it https://michpics.wordpress.com/tag/edmund-fitzgerald/ did not end well (yes I know it wasn't nearly as big a boat)
/dev/null Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 If it were an oil tanker, that would be a big gas ship
DC Tom Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Titanic was 883'. An aircraft carrier is 1000+ feet and 100,000+ tons. That is a big ship. In fact, it would make a decent aircraft carrier. The Brits did it in '82 with the Atlantic Conveyor.
Chef Jim Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Ok so took a drive down to the harbor. Wow!! The thing you notice more than anything else is how tall it is. It's a tall ship to begin with but then you stack containers in it as well. Quite impressive.
Beerball Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Ok so took a drive down to the harbor. Wow!! The thing you notice more than anything else is how tall it is. It's a tall ship to begin with but then you stack containers in it as well. Quite impressive. I wonder if that's true. The containers add height, but they also make the ship sit lower in the water. What's the correlation Tom?

The Brits did it in '82 with the Atlantic Conveyor. it's amazing, though, that people realize how small in comparison the titanic is to modern day
DC Tom Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 it's amazing, though, that people realize how small in comparison the titanic is to modern day What's amazing is that in pictures of her building in the yard, you can see horses hauling material. The Titanic was built using horses.
CowgirlsFan Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Where is ExzilledinIllinois when we need him?
billsfanmiami(oh) Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Got to see this bad boy up close and personal a couple weeks ago in St. Martin. Pretty impressive! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_(yacht)
mead107 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Big boat. They say they have a lot more in the making.
BuffaloBill Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 everything in life gets bigger and bigger ... well at least some things get bigger....
Chef Jim Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 Big boat. They say they have a lot more in the making. Yes. That's why the port of Oakland spent $400 million preparing the outer harder for them.
