Breaking Down Sammy Watkins Incredible Play In the 2nd Half of the Buffalo Bills Season

http://buildingtheherd.com/all-22-breakdowns/breaking-down-sammy-watkins-incredible-play-in-the-2nd-half-of-the-buffalo-bills-season/

In the last eight games, Sammy Watkins has gained the 3rd-most yards (764) and 4th-most touchdowns (7) among wide receivers, despite his 38 receptions and 59 targets rankings 17th and 18th, respectively.

26 of his 38 target have been on passes that traveled 20+ yards downfield, and hes had scores from 21, 28, 40, 47, 48 and 63 yards out. With each game, he and Tyrod Taylor develop more chemistry and the two have been clicking, particularly on the deep sideline throws.

Watkins speed and increasing ability to get in and out of breaks at the top of his route stems has him embarrassing opposing cornerbacks on a routine basis.

He doesn't head butt and punch opposing players during the game, either.

5 yard delay of game though for flipping the ball somewhere other than the ref after a catch! Such bs Edited by YoloinOhio

Between the two of them, on average it cost The Bills just the right amount of draft picks.

Take THAT you Sammy/TT bashers! :nana:

If Bills fans could take a step back and look a few years ahead, they should be able to see a very solid and talented core of veteran offensive players like Tyrod Taylor, Sammy Watkins and Karlos Williams in a league without Brady, Manning, Brees, Rothlesburger (who will all be retired). Also when watching today's game, just ask yourself if Fitzpatrick's going to be lighting it up for the Jets a few years down the road like he is now? Who's Taylor's competition in the AFC East in a few years? Those teams will all have new QBs by then and probably none of them will near as good as Taylor. The Bills just need to concentrate on putting together a great offensive line and fill in the rest on defense every year with cheap veterans who want to come along for the playoff ride every year.

This is how I see things going for this team. Is it a bummer that this year's transition of new coaches and schemes, Taylor's first year starter ups and downs, injuries and penalties brought down everyone's high hopes? Sure it is, but we need to try to look at the silver lining of what these young players will do in an "all offense" league without the greatest group of QBs in NFL history to worry about anymore.

Still can't believe they called that penalty. Ridiculous.

He had a very good second half. It wasn't "incredible". It always amazes me how Bills fans have seen so many crappy teams that players who are competent on the Bills are viewed as pro bowl material, and very good players are viewed as Hall of Famers.

Bills fans view him as a Hall of Famer? Where did you see this?

But it should have been so much better. Second half KC they forgot he was on the field. 4 targets vs Houston (3 catches). Lousy passes vs. Philly. Not enough targets when down 21-0 vs. Washington. Only 7 vs. NYJ and 6 vs. NE & Dallas not enough. A minimum 3 more targets a game would have meant 2 catches (based on his stats) and 30-35 yards and 240 yards......

Yes I am upset and it needs to be addressed.

Well then, "Hello there Billsfan1972. How can we help you with your upsetness? We can recommend Pepto Bismol perhaps? Maybe a physic? Brioschi maybe? Tylenol? Two aspirin and a nap?"

Makes one wonder why the offense didn't attempt to throw to him more often in the first half of the season. He did miss three games, though.

Week one INDY 3 targets 0 rec

Week two NE 8 targets 6 rec, 60 yards

Week three MIA 2 targets 1 rec, 39 yards

Week four NYG---

Week five TENN---

Week six Cinn 5 targets 4 rec, 48 yards

Week seven JAC---

Week eight MIA 8 rec 168 yards

Dunno, perhaps Taylor just got better at throwing into coverage.

It was incumbent upon Greg Roman to make TT get the ball to Watkins. And when Roman wasn't doing it game after game it was incumbent upon Rex to make Roman make TT.

He went out early in that first miami game.

He went out early in that first miami game.

Correct. Went out in the first quarter after trying to come down in bounds in the endzone. Left in the first quarter. Essentially, he missed four games this year.

Helluva year for 12 games, especially when he was receiver non-grata for a few of those.

GO BILLS!!!
