Solomon Grundy Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 @viccarucci Hearing shakeups are expected on #Bills coaching staff, but DC Dennis Thurman apparently won't be one of them. bit.ly/1ZLWUgU Really Vic???
nucci Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Everyone assumes Thurman is just a figurehead and Rex calls the D, but has this ever actually been confirmed? I know it's Rex's scheme, but Thurman must at least be running the day to day management and possible that he calls the shots on game day. I think people underestimate the DC role, even with a coach who has a heavy emphasis on that side of the call. It would not surprise me at all to learn that Rex has delegated this to Thurman. In that case, getting Pettine back could make a huge difference. I just notice Ryan with the play sheet in his hands and it seems he's making the calls during the game. I'm sure Thurman does something but I think it's Ryan's call
Alphadawg7 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Why not would be Pettine probably doesn't want to be a DC With all the HC vacancies already and the Browns being such a wet mess, he may well be given another chance If he isn't, if I'm Pettine I want to try for a DC gig under a HC known as an offensive specialist, so anything I can achieve will be credited to me and build my rep for another HC try. If I go back to work for Rex, I'll be seen as his shadow again, not as the real mastermind of the D. Well considering under Rex the D regressed severely, and under Pettine it excelled in several areas, I don't think that would be true...not to mention we had a good offense this year too, the D was worse than our O. Pettine comes in and turns it around with mostly the same personnel, thats a huge feather in his cap. Several other guys have done this to get back into HC gigs successfully.
