Johnny Hammersticks Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 He said something close to that. my take was he suggested a pay cut by him would not fix the defense. We read about the same thing. Like i wrote before I wonder what the initial cause was for his extreme unhappiness. I think it's pretty obvious why he is unhappy. He goes from playing in 2 defensive systems that allowed him to do what he gets paid the big bucks for...chase the QB, to a system where he is relegated to holding the edge in running situations and dropping into coverage against TE's and sometimes even WR's. He had 13 sacks in 2013 and 14.5 in 2014. Was a pro-bowler and 1st team all-pro in 2014. This season he has 4 sacks. I totally get why he has become a malcontent.

I dont think thats the whole of it. at some point he just shut it down. did Rex take away his fridge ?

Buftex Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I dont think thats the whole of it. at some point he just shut it down. did Rex take away his fridge ? The point when it set in that he didn't like the defense the new HC was intent on running, and he wasn't going to be on the team next season.

machine gun kelly Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Start with a list of traditional 43 teams NS- I'm just scanning this but your spot on, and one with a healthy cap space.
K-9 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Well, losing and being out of running for the playoffs never helps morale. Morale is a personal responsibility. This "he made me quit" busllschit is hard to stomach. Mario quit weeks before we were out of the running when there were still plays to be made and he simply chose not to make them. Who knows how one of those plays may have impacted a play, series, or game and the rest of the season? It would piss me off to no end to have to play next to a guy who no longer cared to contribute. Especially when I know that guy can be one of the best in the game and help make a difference for the rest of his teammates. This is more about Mario quitting on his teammates than anything else. I won't be surprised if there are few takers for his services. GO BILLS!!!
3rdand12 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 The point when it set in that he didn't like the defense the new HC was intent on running, and he wasn't going to be on the team next season. could that have happened very early in? Maybe even camp ?
K-9 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 The point when it set in that he didn't like the defense the new HC was intent on running, and he wasn't going to be on the team next season. That would be preseason if you believe the teammates cited in Dunne's article. Nice to know it has been festering all that time. If Rex screwed up the defense, Mario Williams sabotaged it. GO BILLS!!!
YoloinOhio Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 (edited) Jags. Bradley will know just what to do with him.which is... ? He has no burst or power. Stop the run? Ooh sign me up. They'd get more production out of a rookie. Edited January 1, 2016 by YoloinOhio

I copied the 4-3 defenses first from an article this August so you can see the Bills are in there incorrectly, but most are accurate. Then I'm looking at cap space who can afford Mario even at a lesser rate than his current number. Then, I want to look at what defense could really benefit from another pass rusher, and what teams will go out into free agency. what I don't have the time to do is see who has to resign their top talent and how much that will take off the cap. So my uneducated guesses are as follows: Bucs Raiders Atlanta Detroit. We'll see but these teams have money, play the 4-3, and need more pass rush. Mario would be excellent next to Gerald McCoy, or Mack. I'm open to any comments, but we should at least look at those areas. GB is a 3-4, so are a few other teams placed here. Why would Mario want to go to another 3-4 team. He's rich. He wants a healthy contract, where e does exactly what he likes, and probably has two goals. Playoffs/SB, and HOF. He needs to be a pure pass rusher to get the second one done for 4-5 more years and even then will be questionable.
Nanker Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 If this holds up, it doesn't look good for Mario.
