H2o Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Today is the start of the college football playoffs. These teams are loaded with NFL talent. Let's do a little breakdown team by team. Sit back and enjoy the games while keying in on some players who could be in a Bills uni next year. Let's start with Alabama, by far the best defense in the nation. A ton of talent on that side of the ball. Their defensive line boasts two of the best in college football in A'Shawn Robinson (#86) and Jarran Reed (#90). These guys are both potential 1st round selections with Robinson being projected to go as high as top 10. Both of them would be excellent selections to play 3-4 DE in our scheme. Reggie Ragland (#19) is an imposing force at the ILB position. He's not going to wow you with his athleticism, but you will see him in on the tackle of pretty much every rushing attempt MSU will make. He's a smart and instinctive LB who can thump that is also good enough in coverage as well. He, like Robinson and Reed, is a projected 1st round selection. Then you have a guy like Jonathan Allen (#93) at 6'3" and 280lbs firing off the edge to pressure the QB. He is projected anywhere between late 1st round to late 2nd. On offense everyone knows about Derrick Henry, the Heisman Trophy winning RB. He will be drafted somewhere between rounds 1 & 3. Jacob Coker is also an interesting guy at the QB position. He had a rough start to the year, but has settled in nicely to Lane Kiffin's offense making some big-time throws in big-time situations. He has good size at 6'5" 230lbs and a strong arm, but would definitely be a project. Eddie Jackson (#4) has made the move from CB to S this year and has looked really well getting 5 INT's, but he's not the heaviest of guys weighing in around 180lbs. He is probably the most likely to return to school for his Senior season. Next up on the list is Michigan St. When you talk about Michigan St. then Connor Cook (#18) is probably the guy who will be drafted the highest because of the weight the QB position holds. Cook has plus pocket awareness, that shiftiness needed to gain yourself that extra second, and a good arm. The questions will be whether he has what is needed between the ears, his attitude, and does he have the necessary work ethic to succeed at the position in the NFL. Opinions vary on those attributes. On defense they have one of the better NFL prospects in Shilique Calhoun (#89). He can play DE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4 as he has the athleticism to drop into short range coverage. He's lined up against multiple NFL Draft prospects playing in the Big 10 and put up solid numbers with 14.5 TFL and 10.5 sacks. A guy he practiced against every day is OT Jack Conklin (#74). Conklin is also sure-fire 1st round guy who could have a good career in the NFL. Clemson is next up on the list. They have a potential 1st round pick on defense in Shaq Lawson (#90). He will be disruptive up front for that Clemson defense all day. Mackensie Alexander (#2) has been solid all year long at the CB position. He doesn't intercept passes, but he has been solid in man coverage against any top WR he has faced this year. He is likely a day 2 prospect. Jayron Kearse (#1) is a hard hitting S prospect roaming the defensive backfield for Clemson. He has the size at 6'3" 220lbs to play in the box and the speed to be able to cover TE's in pass defense. He also is likely a day 2 prospect. We'll finish up with the Oklahoma Sooners. They have Sterling Shepard (#3), a solid day 2 prospect at WR. He has put up 1,200 yards to go with 11 TD's this year and is Baker Mayfield's most reliable target. He's not the biggest guy, but will likely be a quality slot WR in the NFL. Then we have Eric Striker (#19), a throwback LB so to speak. The guy absolutely LOVES to hit people and he's good at it. He's also not bad in coverage. His best fit is probably as a 4-3 OLB in the NFL because he's only about 225lbs. He doesn't have the strength to take on interior lineman and play ILB in the 3-4 unless he adds about 20lbs and he's not your 3-4 rush backer type either. Another solid day 2 prospect though. Finally we have Charles Tapper (#91). A 285lb 3-4 DE at the next level more than likely, but could also be the strong-side DE in a 4-3. He's another guy that could be a late day 2 or early day 3 prospect. All in all, it should be a great day of NCAA football my friends. 26CornerBlitz Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Bowl bonanza: 10 projected first-round picks playing in Dec. 31 games
John from Riverside Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Ragland is actually my 1st round mock pick If we select him.....we can move Preston Bown outside where he played much better last year.
H2o Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) Ragland is actually my 1st round mock pick If we select him.....we can move Preston Bown outside where he played much better last year. But in Rex's true defensive alignment there will need to be two capable ILB's ala David Harris and Bart Scott. I also don't see Preston making it as an OLB in a 3-4. Edited December 31, 2015 by H2o
YoloinOhio Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Watching this Tom Herman Houston team is making me sick. Maybe he can fedex Urban his playbook to Arizona after the game.

I honestly think people are a little too down on Preston Last year when he played outside he did just fine....actually he was damn good Regardless.....Bragland has David Harris written all over him Edited December 31, 2015 by John from Hemet
Buffalo Barbarian Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 shouldn't this be in the crystal ball thread.
YoloinOhio Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 (edited) Dabo: "Nobody believed in us !" Um....Clemson favored in every game this year and ranked #1 Edited January 1, 2016 by YoloinOhio
Beerball Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Dabo: "Nobody believed in us !" Um....Clemson favored in every game this year and ranked #1 I think that players & coaches always look for a reason, look for an edge. Going into the game they were the underdog, that's all he was getting at. If Alabama wins I would guess that they'll again find themselves underdogs.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Dabo: "Nobody believed in us !" Um....Clemson favored in every game this year and ranked #1 Wasn't OU favored today?
H2o Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 shouldn't this be in the crystal ball thread. It was deserving of it's own imo and offered a little info on whom to watch today specifically my friend.
