Just Jack Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 so much that they may die of excitement. http://www.wftv.com/news/news/national/blood-seeps-out-cruise-ship-elevator/nptQG/
KD in CA Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Ugh...obviously the maintenance guy was crushed by the elevator (but love how the media hypes up the 'mystery'). Same thing happened to a women in a building in NYC a few years ago just down the street from my old office. RIP
Marv's Neighbor Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 We just took a Rhine River 7 day cruise from Basel Switzerland to Amsterdam. Beautiful country, 3 level ship, there was 1 elevator for the geezers, but nobody used it. 160 passengers max on the ship, we had 130, IF it sunk, you walk up to the sundeck, keep your feet dry, and wait for help. I don't see the attraction to those monster cruise ships, with all the horror stories..
Maury Ballstein Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Offered to pay for counseling sessions ? Okay We just took a Rhine River 7 day cruise from Basel Switzerland to Amsterdam. I think 95% or higher love the monster cruises. Think the bad stuff gets more pub. I've been on 5ish carnival/Royal Caribbean trips and all have been great. Never had an issue
PromoTheRobot Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Cruises are great. Where else do you get so much value? It's an all-inclusive resort for under $200 a day.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Cruises are great. Where else do you get so much value? It's an all-inclusive resort for under $200 a day. Agreed. Mrs. Hammer and I have been on several, and never a bad experience. Hit some pretty rough seas coming back from Nassau one time, but we still had a blast eating, drinking, and gambling in the casino. You can score some great deals on cruises.
Flutie Flakes Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) Friends of ours are trying to talk us into going on a cruise next February in Western Caribbean. Not sure how I feel about being on a ship with throngs of other people, especially when you hear about the issues some ships have had with norovirus outbreaks. You cannot beat the price and our friends have been on several and have had a great time, but the idea of waiting in lines to embark/disembark and being around tons of people is not appealing for me while on vacation. The cruise that Marv's Neighbor went on sound more like vacation than on a ship with 3000 + people onboard. Ryan, Promo, Johnny and JR....can you chime in on the larger ship experience? Wacka Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 You can get norovirus without leaving land, just go to Chipotle.
mead107 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Hawaii cruise was awesome flew to Hawaii got on ship. Cruise out of Boston up to Nova Scotia then to Quebec was another good trip. Going to Alaska in August trip starts in Seattle.
Flutie Flakes Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I forgot that you cruised Hawaii and Nova Scotia. I'll catch up with you for a beer. Maybe catch a playoff game at Flightline....
Just Jack Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 ...but the idea of waiting in lines to embark/disembark .... I've only been on one cruise, Princess, back in 2007. It was a ship with around 4,000 passengers. Embarking I thought was easy. Disembarking at the end took a while. They had a list of the approximate time you could get off depending on what/where you were going, but you still had to wait for them to call your group. We were at least an hour later than our listed time. One thing we learned really early was with shore excursions, take the afternoon ones or plan your own. When you book a morning excursion, everyone else on the morning excursions is getting to breakfast at the same time, so it's a zoo. Going with afternoons, we could get up when we wanted, get off the ship for a few hours and sight see before heading back to the ship for our afternoon excursion.

Going to Alaska in August trip starts in Seattle. Enjoy, and give yourself plenty of time to connect in Seattle. August is one of the 2 months when you can count on good weather in Seattle.
LewPort71 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Oops no lockout tagout... My thoughts exactly. At the plant where I work we have this training at least 2 X per year. Mrs. Lew and I are going on a cruise in November to the Eastern Caribbean. This will be our second Carnival cruise. And cruisecritic.com is a great site as JR mentioned.
Chilly Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I've been on several megaships and probably ten cruises total. Love them. The megaships are the best, so much variety and so much to do!
MDH Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 The disturbing part isnt that someone died in an accident but that a passenger thought it a good idea to pull out his phone to get some video. WTF?
