John from Riverside Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I know a lot are not on board with this but I really liked Salas I mean...not number 1 option like him but he is not supposed to be?
26CornerBlitz Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 My point is though 8 games of Harvin and then 8 games of Salas/Boykin/Little/Thompson is better than 16 games of Salas/Boykin/Little/Thompson. There really is little to no downside if the contract is cheap. A degenerative hip condition that has led to knee issues. There is certainly no guarantee that he'll return to being any semblance of the explosive player that we saw early in the 2015 season. Just call me a skeptic given the history of his career.

You may not find a guy as explosive as Harvin but you can find a more reliable option whom is an upgrade over the other guys you have listed. You sacrifice a little glitz and glam for some consistency on a week to week basis. That is where this offense needs to improve the most.

YoloinOhio Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I know a lot are not on board with this but I really liked Salas I mean...not number 1 option like him but he is not supposed to be? Salas is fine but I'm not scared of his ability as a DC so I'm leaving him alone and am happy to let him beat me as I smother Sammy. He might make a few plays but most DCs are good with that because he's not taking over a game. He's stoppable.

It may be even less (Kerley was roughly $1.1M). Who are you going to find for that money that will do anything even close to what Harvin is capable of? That list of FA WR in his price range are not that appealing. Yolo really hit the nail on the head. The threat of Harvin is what is most important to the offense. If they draft one early the need for Harvin goes down. I would still consider him at the right price.
YoloinOhio Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I mentioned it before probably in this thread but Miami signed Jordan Cameron to a deal last year where he only got paid per games played. That could be an option, but what I believe is that another team would be ok with giving him more of a gtd contract.
thebandit27 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Salas is fine but I'm not scared of his ability as a DC so I'm leaving him alone and am happy to let him beat me as I smother Sammy. He might make a few plays but most DCs are good with that because he's not taking over a game. He's stoppable. In that respect--the only guy (besides Sammy) that really requires opposing DCs to adjust anything is Goodwin. You simply can't play a normal 1-1 coverage on his side of the field and expect your standard boundary guy to keep up with him. His injury issues really take away the team's ability to challenge defenses.
YoloinOhio Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Also, I don't worry about roster spots until the end of August. You never know what can happen with injuries in camp and PS. It is a good problem, not a bad problem, to have more good options at WR than spots on the 53.
3rdand12 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I think I'm the only one who hopes he is back. Even if it's not a full time role. They can't pay him a lot so it certainly be on the cheap. Still draft one obviously but he's a good talent to have in the arsenal. He's fast, versatile, experienced and had chemistry with Taylor right off the bat. Clearly injury prone which is why, if he is back, it would be cheap/incentive laden. not the only. there are two of us !

3rdand12 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Very well done! no no that was just awful.. Exactly. I couldn't care less about any contract he might get expensive or cheap. The real cost of Harvin is the roster spot. Might as well call it a 52 man roster if you sign him. Other potential receivers, although probably less talented, get pushed down a rung and we are less attractive a landing spot for other potential acquisitions. If we could somehow be guaranteed that he would stay healthy for say 14 of 16 games, we should probably sign him. How many of the WRs Bills have now qualify for PS ? Harvin goes down early is really my biggest fear, must have a plan in place. This is where i think drafting a 4th rd burner might be wise Initially he was. But he became less effective and explosive as the season wore on. you mean when he became injured ? twice lol
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 If he's paid literally the league minimum - with the chance to earn more based on performance.... i would CONSIDER it. Having said that - he brings in some drama and only likely plays what 4 or 5 games? Whats the point?
BuffaloBill Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 They won't sign him then. Correct, it's also telling that nobody is showing any interest...
3rdand12 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Correct, it's also telling that nobody is showing any interest... He did make one visit. Bills Dr. s know best in this i trust. kinda have to i suppose.
GunnerBill Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 At $1m for one year I could live with it. I'd still prefer they move on though. Don't trust him to be available and don't believe he is as good as most people think he is.
Maury Ballstein Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Really? OK I know a lot are not on board with this but I really liked Salas I mean...not number 1 option like him but he is not supposed to be? Why do you hold every player of the buffalo bills in such high regard ? Not all of them are irreplaceable. Especially the bottom of the barrel guys you seem to pull for.
NoSaint Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I agree as usual, i do too. Sammy, Woods, rookie, harvin, and 1-2 of the depth guys especially if easley is PUP, we could turn around and have him fill harvins spot if harvin does disappoint on the health side. If he's paid literally the league minimum - with the chance to earn more based on performance.... i would CONSIDER it. Having said that - he brings in some drama and only likely plays what 4 or 5 games? Whats the point? in 7 years hes played 9 or more 5 times, and 13+ 4 times. his ACL injury, and last year are the only times hes generally missed whole seasons
K D Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Kerley signing with the Lions the day rumors come out about Harvin most likely wanting to play in 2016 doesn't seem like a coincidence to me
26CornerBlitz Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Bills GM: Harvin leaning toward playing; decision coming soon?
