Jets Move On to Play the Bills, With Layer Upon Layer of Intrigue

By BEN SHPIGEL NY Times

The Jets’ schedule was revealed, perused and then deconstructed, and what seemed predestined back in April — it had to, it had just had to — became undeniable on Sunday: that somehow, some way, a playoff berth would hinge on the outcome of their final game.

At Buffalo.

Against Rex Ryan.

Except that the Bills have been eliminated. The Jets most certainly have not.

After beating the New England Patriots in overtime, the Jets are 10-5 and aiming for their first six-game winning streak in 17 seasons.

To secure their first postseason spot since 2010, when Ryan led them to their second consecutive A.F.C. championship game, they must win again Sunday. Other results would guarantee the Jets passage — one loss by Pittsburgh or two by Denver — but none would be as fulfilling, or delicious, as avenging November’s defeat and celebrating on the field at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

I think the big question regarding this game is who gets more receptions: Greg Salas or Leonard Hankerson?

Salas has assumed Robert Woods' role as the blocking WR, so I'll guess Hankerson. dunno.gif

I saw a headline reading:

"Jets on the verge of playoffs with Rex Ryan standing in the way".

Is that a new headline or has it been recycled for 5 years in a row now?

If the weather is lousy - this game can sway either way. It'll play to each teams strength - us running, and them stopping the run. Could be interesting to watch at least.

Also covers up our biggest weakness in defending downfield passes. But stops our big plays on offense and stacks the box.

Could be a messy one. Hopefully if we can get a lead, roman just puts his foot on the gas and keeps at em. We have let leads slip away all year long trying to get cute.

@AKinkhabwala

Mike Tomlin on getting Rex Ryan and the Bills' aid: "Certainly Rex is a guy I consider a friend... But I won't be calling him this week."

@SalSports

With Bills/Jets still Sunday at 1pm on CBS, it'll be Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts, and Evan Washburn (sidelines) calling the finale.

Fitz and Gailey vs Rex

History favors Rex by a significant margin

Fitz difference is their defense if he turns it over they get it back 3 plays later not go down and score like the buffalo days. He still takes chances still makes great throws and bad ones......his defense backs him up.

that said Bills 27-20
