The guy's job is to bring in talented players. He can't control the way they play or the way the coaches coach.

Very little of what happened this year should be put on Whaley unless we are going to pin the epic collapse of the defense on him like he should have seen it coming even though nobody would have predicted it. He has drafted very well, added very good pieces both thru FA and the waiver wire, and he can only do but so much and then it's on the players and coaches. Edited December 27, 2015 by matter2003

Exactly my point...he can only do so much...drafts, FA classes and waiver wire additions have all been very good for the most part with Whaley

Even if you give him all of the credit for recent drafting and player acquisitions, i am not sure why there is such strong support for him on this board. We continue to miss the playoffs and I do not think there is a lot to be optimistic about for next year given our cap situation and need to, at a minimum, retool on defense. I am trying to be objective here, but I think the best argument that can be made for Whaley is that a GM should have at least three years to turn things around. Maybe the better argument is that after 16 years without making the playoffs and new ownership, a housecleaning is in order.

Watch him no longer get credit or blame for Brown, Bradham, Mario or Rex even though they were all reasons to keep him 6 months ago.

Whaley has not been the GM for 16 years. They haven't been the owners for 16 years. They've been here 1 year. They need to look at the here and now and not what came before, and decide if it has the foundation to build upon in a positive direction. A "czar" type would help with that.

If another "insider" reports the opposite, you then praise the new report and state that it is certifiable proof that the original was garbage. Got it.
