boyst
Alonso is an instinctual, athletic football player. Tasking him to do too much is a mistake; he needs simple football with simple schemes and he will accelerate. He isn't a mike linebacker, either. He is a jack. boyst
are there non athletic football players(other than kickers). What is 'simple football'? #90 are there non athletic football players(other than kickers). What is 'simple football'? simple football is what dick lebeau runs. simple football is what sean mcdermott runs. simple football is what works best. its what baltimore truly ran with lewis, reed and suggs. it puts the impetus on the players to play straight up football. the easiest defenses are man coverages but few teams can now match up well enough with the offensive talent the modern game brings. since randy moss, larry fitzgerald and the mid 90's WR's coming out have been so much more talented than most other positions on the field it has put a lot more pressure on the defense. When you mix in a talented TE - Olsen, Gronk, Bennet, Gonzalez, etc - you have mismatch heaven. The easiest way to stop that without getting too fancy is zone defense. That is a simple defense. A DL which either fills the gaps to shut down lanes so that LB's can cover the pass or a DL that is quick enough and good enough to disrupt the OL so that the LB's can play clean up. When you have a LB gifted enough at covering the field in good time with instinct as Alonso has shown you can use him in that coverage. Don't ask too much more of him. Don't ask too much more of him. that's a very 'simplistic' explanation. The fact is , Alonso has never been good against the run, and if you can't shed blockers or contribute on running plays, you are pretty useless as a linebacker. As what happened with the Bills and now the Eagles, teams will run at him, a lot, because they will be successful, even if he may be good in coverage, he won't get too many chances to show it. Right now, he is a bad linebacker. Simple

He can cover TE's and backs coming out of the backfield.
boater
No disrespect to Kiko, who is a talent... just sayin.. where's the praise for DW who wisely decided McCoy for Alonso straight up was a a good deal? C'mon fans.. our season sucks, but you gotta admit the Bills made out on this one. And, I suggest, the Bills also did good on the Tyrod deal.
