Deranged Rhino
Ever been to Germany? Notice all the statues of Jodl, Von Rundstadt, Keitel, Von Paulus, and Rommel? Me neither. This isn't hard. It's not as cut and dry as you're trying to make it either.
boyst
It's not as cut and dry as you're trying to make it either. it is when it's Hitler and Satan. Ya know, come to think of it there is certainly irony. Heavily conservative religious folks think that the Democrats are the devils work. Heavily conservative religious folks think that the Democrats are the devils work. It's like two sets of crazies trying to out loon each other The fringes and extremes of both parties have always been populated by nutters. What's alarming is the amount of "centrists" (or at least people who think they're centrists) suddenly espousing views and beliefs that run contrary to the basic principles of liberalism, freedom, and American democracy... ... Of course I've been arguing for years that we no longer live in a Democratic Republic, we only think we do... I guess now most people have just given up entirely on the notion that the republic can be saved. Are you making Robert E. Lee analogous to Nazis? Yes. Because the nuances of history are lost on those who have never bothered to study it.

BringBackOrton
The Pyramids don't honor a lost cause of white supremacy They honor a lost cause of Egyptian ruling class superiority. You know, the folks who thought themselves mortal vessels of deities and all their subjects existed to serve them? Why do you torture yourself? Thurmal34
Are you making Robert E. Lee analogous to Nazis? Those guys were Wehrmacht, not Nazis party members, so no. What I'm saying is Lee led the army of a traitorous nation that was founded on white supremacy and was defeated. Those guys led the army of a regime bent on conquest for lebensraum and based on aryan supremacy and was defeated. One nation admitted they were wrong and moved on. B-Man
SMASH ALL THE THINGS! New Orleans’ Joan of Arc Statue Vandalized With ‘Take It Down.’ Wait, which side did she fight for in the Civil War? Now The Vandals Are Attacking Statues Of Catholic SaintsAs President Trump said, the totalitarian mob rule of removing statues people find offensive has a slippery slope descending into darkness. On top of people calling for the removal of George Washington's statue and the Jefferson Memorial, vandals in California have pointed their crosshairs at recently-canonized St. Junipero Serra. According to a CBS Local report, a photo circulating the rounds on Facebook shows that a statue of Junipero Serra alongside a Native American boy in a park across from Mission San Fernando was vandalized with red paint and the word "murder" written in white. The Native American boy had a swastika painted across his chest.
RaoulDuke79
Thankfully Gettysburg is taking a stand that the confederate monuments won't be removed. It's part of history for better or worse...if we continue on this path maybe we can forget the civil war or slavery even happened.

Unfortunately it has become acceptable to deface and destroy those sculptures. Get ready for just about any statue anywhere to be defaced in an act of one upmanship. Stores and other private property will be next. There's something vaguely ironic about Dan Sickles' ego project commemorating his greatest !@#$-up keeping Confederate statues on the field. reddogblitz
We've got some statue craziness going on in Seattle. 2 of them actually. One is a Confederate soldiers memorial at a private cemetary. I don't think hardly anyone in Seattle knew about it until the Seattle Times ran a picture of it yesterday. Now of course there are protesters there and the mayor says they should take it down. The other is a statue of Lenin that someone found in a field and shipped it back to Seattle a long time ago. It's pretty much been a joke since I've lived here. Allegedly it's for sale. It's in a shopping center parking lot. They put Christmas lights on it in December. Now they have protesters too. http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/seattle-mayor-murray-calls-for-removal-of-confederate-monument-lenin-statue/ But that's America. Distract the people about something trivial. And now with social media, a mob mentality ensues. Notice the uproar over health care reform had been taken over by this statue business. GoBills808
Article from the Times on Lee and his views vis-a-vis slavery: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/18/us/robert-e-lee-slaves.html?module=WatchingPortal®ion=c-column-middle-span-region&pgType=Homepage&action=click&mediaId=thumb_square&state=standard&contentPlacement=1&version=internal&contentCollection=www.nytimes.com&contentId=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2017%2F08%2F18%2Fus%2Frobert-e-lee-slaves.html&eventName=Watching-article-click Interestingly, he was apparently opposed to the construction of Confederate monuments, saying it was better "not to keep open the sores of war but to follow the examples of those nations who endeavored to obliterate the marks of civil strife.”
