Here's a fun exercise: can anyone in this thread explain why keeping the Lee statue up is important without referencing other monuments, equivalencies, etc.?

Well, the Nazi seem to like it for chanting anti Semitic crap around it. They don't at the other statues.

Can anyone explain why keeping any statue up without referencing other monuments or equivalencies?

But yeah, we should absolutely indulge you, because it's super brilliant to try to discuss the erecting and maintenance of statues and monuments in a vacuum without the context of why people erect and maintain statues and monuments.

We put up monuments to celebrate the subject of the monument. Is that debateable?

But why? Who cares? What's the import or significance?

Or do you think it might be helpful to this sort of conversation to have context?

You're right, statues are meaningless and don't symbolize anything.

Silly me.

You're the one who wanted to have the conversation in a vacuum without referencing other statues or monuments.

So yes, silly you.

He surrendered the Confederate Army rather than dissolve it to fight a guerrilla war, thereby ending the bloodiest conflict this country has seen cleanly and honorably.

And he was the greatest general the country ever produced, bar none.

But why would human beings erect or maintain a statue?

I dunno about the greatest.... but I won't argue with you.

Jesus Christ. The left is completely breaking down today. I have 3 friends texting me a civil war is about to start.

Text them back and ask them who their money's on, anti #2A leftists or the deplorables?

i would strongly advise usually non-violent people (like the left) to think real hard about taking up arms against the powers of the US government.

Even the police forces can deliver a pound of C4 to your spider hole hostage nook with a robot. Which was the coolest IT thing implemented over the last 2 years.

Imagined rights?

What ideal or philosophy is it that you're referencing, I wonder, when you condemn the killing of those estimated 60-85 million people? What concept are you appealing to when you judge that act as "wrong"?

As to fascists negating rights?

You might be the least self-aware poster on this board, condemning fascism and historical fascist lack of respect for rights, while at the same time advocating for fascist action and the violation of the rights of others.

Idiot.

Ah yes. Someone who doesn't understand what fascism is decides to fight fascism with... fascism.

You're not thinking clearly. What you're advocating is right out of the fascist playbook. By gleefully acknowledging you're willing to stomp on someone's constitutional rights because you do not agree with their opinion, no matter how vile and unseemly those opinions are, you're doing their work for them.

 So funny to hear morons talk about dyed-in the-wool Nazis like they're regular people... -Regular people don't want you DEAD just for not being like them... If you're going to fight that energy, you're going to have to overwhelm it.

But hey, -Lets try hugs, and see how they work!

Why not. Worked for the Communists in 1932.

No, no...

You said imagined rights, and in the same breath condemned the killing of some 60+ million people.

What philosophy or concept are you appealing to when you say those killings were wrong? What made them wrong?
