How's your lawn jockey working out?

It's not how it starts. Taking down statues happens sometimes for historical offensiveness, sometimes for other reasons. It doesn't mean that we're 3 years from prison camps. Don't go all sky-is-falling histrionic.

This is a small statue in the corner of a small college town. Lee comes down. Paterno stays. The Yin and Yang is still in balance.

That statue wasn't their property. And since they destroyed it, they should be incarcerated. Or, maybe we should let nazis tear down mlk statues they find offensive. Edited by joesixpack

My post you responded to was about the Charlottesville statue.

What happened in Raleigh was criminal vandalism. They should go to jail.

The correct response is a rejection of identity politics and a focus on treating people as individuals first rather than members of a racial or ethnic group.

Take that attitude to Google and see how far you get. Edited by Ralonzo

Take down 'racist' Theodore Roosevelt statue, activists tell New York museum

Protesters gather at the American Museum of Natural History to demand the removal of the statue and issue an urgent call to rename Columbus Day

Hundreds of activists gathered at the American Museum of Natural History on Monday to take down the “racist” statue of Theodore Roosevelt and an urgent call to rename Columbus Day.

More than 200 people cheered outside the museum as activists covered the statue of Roosevelt on horseback flanked by an African American and Native American on either side and demanded it be ultimately removed.

“A stark embodiment of the white supremacy that Roosevelt himself espoused and promoted,” the group explained in a statement. “The statue is seen as an affront to all who pass it on entering the museum, but especially to African and Native Americans.”

Activists from the groups NYC Stands with Standing Rock and Decolonize This Place organized the protest to draw attention to the museum’s encouragement of racist tropes, and implored New York City to rename Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day.

Don't these people have anything better to do with their time? At this rate we might have to blow up Mount Rushmore.

Yes, because white is bad.

ANYTHING and EVERYTHING white about our history is bad to these people. And somehow they're better than neo-nazis?

I call bull ****. The NAACP is ALL about indentity politics.

Dumber than that. We should tear down representations of state loyalty in the interests of national unity, according to the people who fight nationalism tooth and nail because they equate it to racism.

It's beyond ignorant.

As soon as all the statues are gone, peace & harmony will prosper. Why can't they pick a symbol of disdain that we can all get behind....like Beiber.

Some asswipes want to erase some of this great country's history, you can't do that, you learn from it

No one is erasing it. But some question whether there should be public tribute to some of the historical figures.

In the sporting world, removing OJ and the Paterno statue at Penn State parallel the discussion. OJ will always be the first guy to rush for 2000 yards. But do we need to have a public monument to him? Paterno won a bazillion games. But he at best turned a blind eye to a serial child rapist. Should he have a statue erected in his honor?

Just framing the issue.

Framing it poorly, and without a drop of nuance; but I think you knew that.

You're a bright guy, and I'm 100% certain that you know those aren't monuments to racism or slavery. They aren't sitting there, here in 2017, to antagonize people.

There is a new phenomenon, given our society's rush to endow victims with hero status, and advent (onslaught?) of Critical Race Theory, to seek out cause to be offended and outraged where none exists.

No, they don't. They reflexively reject the idea based on the reinterpretation of history through modern social mores that didn't exist at the time those men lived.

There's no "question" about it...there's not even any discussion, as several in this thread alone have demonstrated. These people have a Taliban-like dedication to destroying anything they don't agree with.

Look at the statue in Durham torn down last night.

It wasn't anyone specific.

Just a representative of a basic Confederate soldier...........(who were non-slave holders)

No discussion.

No reason........... (in every sense of the word)

Just blind bigotry based on leftist "facts"
