BF_in_Indiana Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Drew made a few good points in his conference call when discussing where things went wrong for him and the team offensively. Once Peerless and Centers and Jay left, that is enough to hurt our offense just in itself, but then Eric went down in Drews second year and that's when things got bad for the offense. That in turn led to heads rolling and the installation of a ball control offense with power running. Well that isn't the type of offense that Drew Bledsoe is built for. In reality this decision was made before the season when we drafted J.P Drew was just a stop gap this year and I think it would have taken a HUGE performance from him to stay here. His stats this year (on paper) are about what you get from a quarterback in a running offense. Nothing fancy, but not horrible either. 20 TD's and 15 picks is alright and there have been some good teams in the past with quarterback numbers like that. Drew was basically just in the wrong place at the wrong time in a way.
Dawgg Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I don't buy that. You can make excuses til the cows come home in the NFL. Injuries and player turnover happens all the time. But frankly speaking, even during his Pro Bowl year when Peerless, Centers, and Riemersma were on the team, his play dipped considerably over the course of the season. Since then, he has been average at best. For QBs like Drew, that's the tell-all story. It's always a matter of "if only he had a line" or "if only his supporting cast was better" or "perhaps the offense wasn't taylored to his strengths." To that, I say hogwash. At the end of the day, football is football. Drew not only held onto the ball too long (hello RJ?), he rarely to show up when it mattered most. He played great against bottomfeeders, average against middle-tier teams, and just stunk up the joint against solid competition. Not a trait I want in my QB. Mark Vader Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I agree with you BF. I'm glad that Bledsoe came in when we desperately needed a QB in 2002. He provided some hope and a lot of fun with both Moulds & Price. However his second year was so abysmal, that he would have had to turn into Johnny Unitas overnight in order for him to stay here. Well what can you say, life's not fair. The Bills did what they feel is right for the future. I'll miss Bledsoe, and I wish him luck elsewhere, except if we ever play him. To all you Bledsoe bashers, don't mistake my kind words for Bledsoe as to mean that I am an apologist for him. I've stated many times that I am a Bills fan first. The team comes before the player. That being said, I do have respect for the guy. I was amazed at his toughness. I witnessed the beating he took in Dallas in '03 & I'll never forget the vicious headshot he took in Oakland, and was practically bent backwards. All that and he still came back. This past Christmas I got to meet him in San Francisco and he was very nice to all the fans, signed many autographs, and talked to people for a little while. Very classy. Thank you for the memories Drew. Now that is all over with, let the Losman era begin. Sean Salisbury stated on draft day that Losman was the best QB in the draft. Let's see what the kid can do. GO BILLS!!!!!
BF_in_Indiana Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 Oh I definately wasn't pleased with Drew's play the last two years, but I don't really think much of an effort was made to shore up the most important position around him on offense, and that is the offensive line. If you are going to have a guy that can't move from the pocket, you better get him an offensive line, something which I don't think we really did.

GO BILLS!!!!! 242610[/snapback] Bledsoe may not go down as the best QB in Bills history (although he does hold an astonishing number of team record, for someone who is such a POS according to the masses), but he is definitely the classiest. Good luck to Bledsoe, where ever winds up!
