I have my issues with Rex....but to say because the Jets are better and we're worse is proof he's no defensive genius is dumb.

Did Rex have Revis and Cromartie last year? Did he have the offense they have now that can keep the chains moving? Is that all Bowels? Please.

Meanwhile we've lost Kyle, Aaron, Bradham, Aaron, and now Gilmore and Mario is basically checked out probably bc he knows he won't be back. We have a rookie at #2 corner.

But articles and national reaction like this to our success or lack thereof will come with the territory as long as Rex and all his bluster run the show. It's because of that, that when we struggle or play poorly--all eyes on the guy making guarantees. This one is over the top spiteful crap----"proof he's no genius?" Who wrote that? A 16 year old Pats fan?

Any chance it is the players?

A. Williams has missed virtually the entire year along with K. Williams. Mario has missed games and is playing hurt.

Is it Rex's fault for the personal foul penalties? How is that related to the scheme?

Maybe Brown has regresses. Bradham and Lawson were never more than average.

I may have underestimated Searcy's value. Never thought much of him as a player and wanted Graham at safety. Really like Rambo but the rest of the safeties will be gone.

And what about Dareus? Is he playing soft with all that money in the bank?

Why is it genius for Dick LeBeau to call a zone blitz but it is stupid when Rex does?

Maybe just maybe the players have regressed terribly, at least the ones that weren't injured

Three pro bowlers from last year, and the fourth on that line should have also been in the pro bowl in Jerry Hughes. They almost all become invisible in Rex Ryan's defensive scheme this year, and mostly because this years Bills just aren't blitzing as much.

It is stupid for Rex Ryan to zone blitz because he doesn't have a plethora of star linebackers, and instead has a star studded front four. Dropping an average D linemen into pass coverage isn't going to hurt the team because he isn't a pure pass rusher anyway. Even HoF QB Jim Kelly made the statement that he as a QB would have loved to see rushers like Hughes, Dareus, Kyle Williams, Mario Williams dropping into pass coverage instead of rushing at him.

Its not the injuries either because when Ryan wants to blitz his defense is very effective. Just ask Tom Brady about that last Bills- Pats game in which the Bills had pressure on Brady on 20 of his 40 drop backs, and so much so he was literally screaming at his offensive linemen to block better. In that game Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Aaron Williams were all out injured.

So, when Ryan chooses to blitz it works, and this season he simply is choosing to not blitz as much and he would rather have his super star D linemen control the gaps over rushing the passer. 30th in sacks from #1 last year says it all.

Just go through that list and ask yourself - why did the Schwartz D do well with pretty much the same players. I doubt MarioW has been hurt as much as misutilized. In today's NFL, with the salary cap and free agency, the window to win is quite narrow. It is much better to design a scheme that takes advantage of your personnel than to build 'your team' over a 3 year time frame. This D was not bereft of talent.

And yes - the HC has a large part in the number of penalties. It comes down to the level of detail and discipline which the HC demands.
