12-14: ERIC WOOD ON WGR (21:08)

It's Buffalo Football Monday, and it's 4pm! Time for Bills center, @EWood70 with Schopp and the Bulldog for his weekly visit!

Wood - "Really tough loss. We didn't play well enough up front... Holding calls got us good, a lot of them are tough for refs to call."

Wood on Eagles defense - "They have some great guys up front. Their defense is based on movement, they move around real good."

Wood - "15 penalties are inexcusable... We have to eliminate the false starts... It's a discipline thing, have to stay disciplined."

Wood on playoff hopes - "We need a lot of help, but we're gonna go out hard for a victory on Sunday."

12-14: REX RYAN ON WGR (11:28)

We roll along here on Buffalo Football Monday, as now we hear from Bills head coach, Rex Ryan with Schopp and the Bulldog!

Rex on penalties - "I know we did everything we could to fix it. I thought we were on the right track."

Rex - "I think lack of focus is an issue on formations. We challenged our guys. Crowd noise, or anything like that, can't be an excuse."

Rex on amount of penalties - "For us, it's unacceptable. We need to get better at it and we will."

Rex - "I thought we were in complete control of the game, then the Eagles pass rush took over."

Rex - "We have 3 games left, I'll never back down from the truth. I never want to let this community down, I want to get to the playoffs."

Blah blah blah... Same **** said after every loss.

True. But what would anyone realistically expect to hear? If I were them, I wouldn't choose to wallow in the muck and misery of a sizable portion of the fan base, either.

GO BILLS!!!

I would rather them just say "No comment"

I don't think their contracts with WGR allow for that.

Anyway, I never expect to get the kind of candor they offer off the record or in closed rooms. Just not realistic.

Eric Wood is pretty candid for the kind of show that it is.

In one sentence Rex says, "I know we did everything we could to fix it." In another he says, "we need to get better and we will."

If you've already done everything you can to fix it, how are you going to improve it going forward?

in between that he said he thought they were on the right track. And they were - I think 3 out of the 4 games before this one they had single digit penalties. They had 5 vs jets and 5 vs Houston.

Most of the penalties (I think 9) were on the OL for holding because they were overmatched by the DL. they were desperate to keep TT upright and holding isn't always called so it sucks, but the Phil DL forced the holds and therefore controlled the game.

The actual issue IMO was they needed to make adjustments or a better game plan for Fletcher Cox.

He was the cause of those penalties, not lack of penalty education or accountability.

And it snowballed on them. Because each penalty would take the ball out of Lesean's hands and force Tyrod to throw. Which let Philly tee off more and create...

more penalties.

One of the things that is consistent with this staff is that the Bills generally get out-coached when it comes to in game adjustments. Other teams make them and the Bills seem to do very little in terms of changing what they are doing mid-game. One of the many, many frustrating things about watching this team.

yes - which is why Rex said penalties lost the game. But to prevent that wasn't about preaching to the team about penalties beforehand. They had been doing better. To prevent it would have involved a game plan like they had for Watt vs Cox. They didn't have one and it killed them.

gonna be a couple more years of this with old rexy. go sabres

what was wrong with the interview? Sounded like any HC interview after a loss.

I agree. Good take.

Haha! We all said that in unison after TT threw the pic to end the game.

How about "Trying to eliminate penalties clearly isn't working. So instead we're going to try to commit more..."

Rex - "I thought we were in complete control of the game, then the Eagles pass rush took over."

 The Bills never led in this game and trailed by double digits at one point. How were they ever "In complete control"?

He could go the Chan Gailey route regarding the penalties: "I don't what what the problem is. If I knew what the problem was I'd have fixed it by now." That would probably be more authentic.

I would have asked either one of those guys (eric or rex), what about lining up felton in the H back spot every play and hammering Fletcher Cox to help his OLine?

We lost because we had no halftime adjustment for the same guy who wrecked the Pats the week before.

Plan, observe, adjust, execute. Come on Rex.
