jeffismagic Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 really? Unless he is singlehandedly building the same game plan and fielding the Saints entire defense that's a comment that is pretty baseless. If I'm the Bills, I would welcome his thoughts on what worked and didn't work that day. He has a ton of experience. He also already played the Cowboys this year, who the Bills play in 2 weeks. Every little bit helps. For those interested in what happened with Rob in NO, this is very detailed http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2015/11/new_orleans_saints_rob_ryan_2.html "The Saints went from fourth to 25th in sacks, and it frustrated Payton that Ryan didn't blitz more. Payton used to chide Ryan, whose scheme primarily relies on disguise to confuse offenses, for the defense's lack of aggression. "Hey, do me a favor, do I have to phone (Ryan's twin and Bills coach) Rex for a pressure?" Payton would remark during games, imploring Ryan to get more aggressive."
NoSaint Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Aka, ad hoc consultant. Or simply brother who has football in common with him
White Linen Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'd like to stick with Rex working with Dennis Thurman on game planning. There's something about watching them whisper to each other while Thurman calls in the defensive play that comforts me on Thurmans role.
Heitz Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Aka, ad hoc consultant. Here "to hang out" AKA here "for the Canadian Ballet". Edited December 8, 2015 by Heitz
Beerball Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'd feel better if Bob Ryan was in town. (that's actually how I read the title the first time)

Hey, hope Rex wasn't holding back this season so as to not make his brother look bad - kidding, of course. I do hope Rex gets more aggressive with this defense in the weeks leading up to what is hoped to be the Bills' first playoff appearance in a very, very long time!!! They can do this if they lock-in on every opponent the way they did the Texans. Good idea to at least bring in Rob as a temporary consultant to help with valuable input on the upcoming three opponents. Go Bills!

Gee, that looks so eerily familiar, and I hope Rex learns from Rob's failure in NO. But alas, after further review there is more to this story then just Rob Ryan failing at his job. The bigger problem was the player turnover, and not properly replacing the veterans they lost on defense. Then the head coach had to get involved in setting up the game plans, and even calling some the plays. The real issue was hiring former Saints DC Dennis Allen who had worked with Sean Payton previously in NO. Sean Payton basically hamstrung Rob Ryan in the scheme, and with the play calls, and then made him the scapegoat. Kinda why the defense still stinks or is perhaps even worse now without Ryan. It looks like Rob Ryan was given complete control of the defense in 2013, and when it went #4 in points & yards against, and even #4 in sacks in 2013 in his first year in NO. Then the defense faltered in 2014, and the HC got imvolved. Who really knows if Rob Ryan had any say at all in player acquisition for the defense, and the team had a fairly large turnover on the defense between 2013, and 2014. Who on the team deceided to spend 54 million on Jairus Byrd? Then screwed up in the draft with the 2nd round pick on a CB who stunk. I kinda hope the team does hire Rob Ryan, and gives his brother a swift kick in the ass to blitz more in Buffalo

K D Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 as long as the words "this is how we did it in New Orleans" don't come out of his mouth then I'm fine
machine gun kelly Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Give him a Quality Control job or something. Rex will need a sacrificial lamb after the year so Thurmon will go, and Pettine will come back as DC when he is fired in Cleveland. Not saying this is a good thing, but rob cannot become our DC. He is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a 10 year resume too, not just a bad year
