Gordio Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Always double down on 11. I know the book says to double down always on 11 but I usually don't double down if the dealer is showing 10.

Go to dinner here. Old school Rat Pack hangout that is mostly just known by the locals and local entertainers. It's kind of pricey, okay, so check the menu before you go...but if you want a great meal in a great old Italian restaurant, you can't go wrong here.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Always double down on 11. Always split aces and 8's

Anyway, came across this list the other night farting around. We are going to go to the juggler dude at the Flamingo one day before cocktails...I like that it starts at 5.00Pm . Can't vouch for any of this, but maybe give you some ideas. http://govegas.about.com/od/attractions/a/100thingstodo.htm Staying at the Cosmopolitan using Marriot points!
Chilly Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Anchor Bar opened up a location at the Venetian. Had some wings and a beef on weck there a couple weeks ago.
Gordio Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Always split aces and 8's That is another one I don't agree. What if your splitting 8's against a 10. Assuming your getting a 10/face card you end up with 18 & assuming the dealer pulls the same the dealer ends up with 20. You just made a bad hand worse & doubled your losses. I do agree always split aces no matter what the dealer is showing.

plenzmd1 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) But odds say you're better off working up from two eights than hitting your 16 against a 10. Or, go downtown, put $1 on the pass , $25 on the odds , $1 on the come, $25 on the odds, and have $50 out of $52 getting the true odds of the bet! I hope they still have some 100 times odds places downtown , been so long sinceI have been. Usually spend a couple hours there and willing to bet the good majority of my bankroll. Rest of time on strip is farting around at whatever $10 or $15 max blackjack table I can find in between drinks, dinners, shows etc.. I Will never play a crap table over $10 minimum BTW. You split, and there is a great chance the dealer busts and you double up Nah I hear what you & LA are saying but I just am not comfortable doing that. At that point I am pulling against the 10 & hope to catch 2,3,4,or 5. I know it is not the way the book says. I used to go up to the Casino when I was younger & play black jack all the time. I was pretty successful at it too. If I get to the Casino 2 times a year now it is a lot. When I go to Vegas(which I haven't been there now in 3 years) I pretty much stick to the sports book. May play about 20 minutes of black jack the whole weekend I am there.
apuszczalowski Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 When i went there I stayed at the Luxor, it was pretty cool Didn't do any gambling (only bet on sports and at the time we got there late on a Sunday so all the football games were over and hockey was on strike) We stayed 2 nights, spent our only full day walking the strip checking out the different casinos The morning we left we went to the 'Gold and Silver Pawn Shop' from the Pawn Stars TV Show and then drove straight to the Grand Canyon (I believe we stayed on the south rim for the night before heading to Scottsdale for the rest of the week. My favorites from the trip, the turkey sandwich at the deli downstairs in the New York New York Casino and another from a store called 'The grasshopper' in the desert off the highway heading to the canyon
Maury Ballstein Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Don't play blackjack. Save your money. Learn how to play poker, can control it more to a degree. Stratosphere has craps tables where 2/3/and I think 12 can be your points too with nice odds. I beat that one up.

Doesn't matter what you can make your point as long as you are getting the correct. odds. Most gimmick bets come with less than ideal odds. If I am a little tipsy and up pretty big, I may even put little bit of money in the middle on a center bet.... and then apologize to my late Dad for making him turn over in his grave LOL
eball Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Don't play blackjack. Save your money. Learn how to play poker, can control it more to a degree. Stratosphere has craps tables where 2/3/and I think 12 can be your points too with nice odds. I beat that one up. I look at it the other way. Blackjack can be very social if you're at a good table, and if you play basic strategy religiously you *shouldn't* lose too much and you may find yourself with a nice bankroll if you hit a hot streak and bet properly. Happens to me almost every trip. The people who consistently lose at blackjack do so because they play hunches and/or don't bet the streaks correctly. Doesn't matter what you can make your point as long as you are getting the correct. odds. Most gimmick bets come with less than ideal odds. If I am a little tipsy and up pretty big, I may even put little bit of money in the middle on a center bet.... and then apologize to my late Dad for making him turn over in his grave LOL That's funny. That is another one I don't agree. What if your splitting 8's against a 10. Assuming your getting a 10/face card you end up with 18 & assuming the dealer pulls the same the dealer ends up with 20. There is a 46% chance the dealer draws a 6 or lower. You split, and there is a great chance the dealer busts and you double up It's all math, fellas. Basic strategy isn't telling you to split those 8s against a 10 because you should win...they're telling you to do it because over the long run you won't lose as much with that crappy hand. Winning at blackjack is all about putting the right bets out there when the conditions are most favorable -- and there are no hunches or "gut feelings" involved.
ricojes Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) I am going Feb 21-25 on a "business trip"....But have been there several times. For first timers, I would check the times for each hotels free shows, such as the Volcano at The Mirage, Pirate show at Treasure Island, the fountains at Bellagio. Walk the strip and check them all out, they are all cool and unique in their own way. Walk through all the casino's, the Palazzo and Venetian are really cool inside, as is Caesar's Palace. Top of the Stratosphere is an amazing view, i would highly recommend it! Eiffel Tower at Paris is cool as well, but not as good as the strat IMO. The High Roller at the Linq is cool, strip of restaurants and shops behind the Linq is worth checking out. There are shops at Caesar's and the Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood. There are a couple places in the Miracle Mile that have really cheap breakfast and drink specials, $1 Margarita's at the Mexican Restaurant in the MM last time we went. We did Gold & Silver pawn in the past, but Rick Harrison just opened up some complex right next to it, bar and restaurant/shops kind of place (might be cool). if you have a car and want to venture out a bit, the Valley of Fire National Park is really cool. And Red Rock isn't as far and is worth the drive. Great scenery. For a restaurant, check out Battista's Hole in the Wall, it's great, plus all you can drink wine! Vegas is a lot of fun, just bring some good walking shoe's, it's a workout... Edited February 10, 2016 by ricojes
plenzmd1 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 ^^^^^ I will be there night of the 25th...you should pre-buy me a beer somewhere!!!
shrader Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 It'll be nice if we ever get to Vegas. Airline incompetence has us currently stranded in LAX.
