Other examples of BIlls being on the short end of mind numbing calls: On more than one occasion last year, refs lifted flags. I clearly remember Kyle WIlliams being held, Kyle lifting his arms to the ref, the ref throwing the flag in acknowlegment and after a brief huddle, the ref announcing on the PA that there was no flag for holding. Or how about the 15 yard penalty against Hughes for B word slapping his own players helmet after a 3rd and short stop on the Pats.

Would love to know why we don't ever get those huddles that result in a flag being picked up. With us it always seems like a thrown flag is by rule sacred, and it would horrify them to conference about it and pick it up when it's a bad call.

We screwed ourselves out of this game. The big talking HC had the opportunity to challenge the play. He didn't. He is a better talker than thinker. Being a bull shitttt artist didn't help him when he was supposed to exercise good judgment on the sidleines.

Agreed!

Yea. I'd say you've hit the nail on the head here.

This is the exact stupid mindset that has been going on for years. Not until recently has the local Buffalo sports media started to acknowledge that crappy calls against the Bills at specific times in the game actually may have decided who wins the game. When callers used to call WGR with complaints about calls they were dismissed as whiners etc... It seems the worm has turned and now a critical eye is on every game, I have long believed that the referees make calls based on the players involved and the teams involved instead of just deciding based on the play. Explain how Robey gets a similar PI call against him by the same officiating crew in two different games (The NFL said both weren't PI)

You can say that Rex should have this and Rex should have that but in reality the calls sucked and when can we expect the official to get the damn call right?

There were 3 calls in the KCgame that worked against the Bills . Do you think those didn't change the course of the game? Explain to me why Hogans non catch wasn't ruled a catch? Then replay has the potential to over turn it. Thats what happened with Maclin's catch that really wasn't a catch. The whole system is screwed up and finally people are realizing it.

The Bills aren't being targeted with bad calls. It is a pervasive problem for all teams.

You missed the point of my post. There was a mechanism in place to correct an obvious mistake. The talkative HC was not attentive enough and didn't have the right people doing their jobs to instruct him to throw the red challenge flag.

The Bills lose primarily because of their own ineptitude. When you hire a goofball from your own division with a losing record you have no excuse to not know that you hired a clown who acted like a clown in his previous job he got fired from.

The Bills are a historically losing franchise because of its own organizational foolishness. It gets tiresome hearing excuse-making baby-criers rationalize how discriminating actions are done to the Bills to cause them to lose. What's next? Blaming our mounting losses on the inflation levels of the opposition balls?

I believe but could be wrong...

This is a league problem

the refs are not full time employees and they should be

they should not have other jobs like reffing college games

they should review game tapes and calls during the week before the next weeks game, like what a catch is!!!!

Officiating Video - Week 12 http://tinyurl.com/pcpo9mk

What is sad, is that Blandino claims that on average there are 4 mistakes a game which averages a 160 plays/game. He brags about the officials being 97% of the time. In most jobs, if you are only 97% right, you are fired. I still contest the 4 mistakes/game claim as being low.

He did notice. They said they were close to challenging it. The hesitation was probably in using the last timeout with 2:39 left in the game. Yes he should of challenged it, but if it was so god damn obvious the refs should have gotten it right too. Now we have to use 1 of 3 challenges on blatant catches (and non catches by the other team!) I guess, but it's all good cause refs make mistakes.

That's not what he said initially. He blamed the Chiefs for not showing hem replays...on the Jumbotron!

The challenge rule is there for a reason. There was no defensible reason not to challenge that critical play.

Seriously? Because any referee of any amount of training, intelligence and experience is going to get calls wrong. Everyone knows this. It's why the current system allows to challenge close or questionable calls.

This was a huge blunder by Rex. If he was only paying a tiny bit of attention on that play he would have at least wondered why his WR running up field after catching the ball was now ruled incomplete. He didn't even notice. He's clueless.

Head coaches should have nothing to do with the challenging. Hire an ex official as our replay specialist, and he makes the calls based on what he sees.

The head coach has too many things going on during a game, replay challenges are about multiple video looks and fast decision making from someone with nfl officiating experience. They make the challenge calls and tell the HC what to do.

This is a super fast game, and refs are doing their best but will always miss calls. Gotta fix our system to be faster and more decisive. Hogan catch was a no brainer challenge, we can't repeat that mistake.

Someone else brought this up as well. While I agree that someone in the coaches booth should be just watching the network feed, when Rex is watching the offense on the filed on a critical down---exactly what else is he looking at other than the play his team is running. What are the too many things?

I and everybody at home, BEFORE the replay, assumed it was a catch because we saw him catch it and run up field before being tackled. We all said "what? incomplete??" after the play ended. Even the announcing team said 'now they're ruling it incomplete?!?"

We all clamored for the replay and then we knew we were right after we saw it.

I don't by that a HC doesn't have to be watching a huge late 4th Q first down play ....let alone watch it get erased without a challenge. That makes no sense. If that play doesn't get an immediate "WTF??" form your HC, your HC is too dumb to have that job. Rex proved in NYJ that he was exactly that dumb, yet the Pegulas and Whaley hired him anyway because he said fun things in his interview.

Rubes.

That was the season killer

Yep. We all knew that game would come back to haunt us. and it did. We're 6-5 if Manuel didnt go turnover crazy, and even then we were STILL in the game, Manuel tried to lead a comeback but that phantom P.I call pretty much put us in a casket.

Are you sure it wasn't in reference to the Maclin catch? I thought it was in reference to the Maclin catch. That one only had a brief replay of the catch that I had to rewind back to at the next commercial break to prove to the people watching that it wasn't a catch.

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/11/30/9819540/rex-ryan-buffalo-bills-chiefs-challenges-chaplin

"On the 37-yarder I wasn't aware because again, I wasn't seeing the video on it," Ryan said. "So from my vantage point, I thought he caught the ball. Obviously I would've challenged it if I would've known there was any question whatsoever on a 37-yard play because it flipped the game.

"I've never seen that. That's the first time you don't see any plays. I think there's a league rule where you usually get to see some, but maybe I'm wrong on that."

He is wrong on that. While some plays require mandatory in-stadium replays (touchdowns, safeties, fumbles, interceptions, etc.), turnovers on downs and 37-yard receptions are not on that list. According to a statement from the NFL, "each coaches booth is also equipped with a standardized broadcast truck feed, which is provided directly from the instant replay booth."

On one close call, Ryan appeared to be told by the Bills team chaplain not to challengea play that was ruled an incomplete pass, although replay appeared to show Bills wide receiver Chris Hogan making a catch. Ryan brushed that off and said the chaplain has no impact on his decision making on challenges and said again on Monday that replay decisions are his own responsibility.

For statistical purposes, do Tyrod and Hogan then get the catch?

Nope.

Dear NFL how about replay for every catch whenever the player goes to the ground and while your at it replay every 15 yd penalty to prevent the Aaron Rodger facemask the other day. Seem like simple solutions to me

How about you give something to a team when you screw up like this. Maybe an extra draft pick out move up in a mid round pick?

It's not feasible. There would be more draft picks allotted because of mistakes than there are players in the draft. :pirate:

Omaha steaks? A lovely wine and cheese basket? Something would be nice.
