Trump Alone at the Top

Recommended Posts

Maybe he'll take a fall down the Trump Tower escalator and won't be able to stand up for the inauguration?

He'd probably tweet about how that's a conspiracy by the illegal staff working at his hotel.

I don't understand how someone who won the !@#$ing election could still complain because he was duped out of the popular vote lol

Yup, sure worth screwing the country over for that!

It's your fault. You wanted an authoritarian executive, because when your moron has the power, you want him to do everything you want.

So now that someone else's moron has that power, you don't want an authoritarian executive. Well, hell, maybe you should have thought of that before you accepted all that authoritarian power to begin with. Trump supporters aren't causing this mess. You and your retarded ilk did. Was it worth screwing the country so women could **** in the men's room?

@realDonaldTrump

Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag - if they do, there must be consequences - perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!

This is a terrible idea. Putting people in prison for speaking is tyrannical in almost every case. And stripping them of their citizenship is so far off the charts that I’m not really sure where to begin (it’s also unconstitutional: see Trop v. Dulles). That journalists and other political commentators have almost all reacted with horror is a good thing.
But it’s worth pointing out that unless those who are opposed to Trump on this are careful, they’re going to make the same mistake they’ve been making all year (myself included): That is, they’re going to assume that the views held by themselves and their friends are representative of the country at large
They’re not.
As it happens, statutes that prohibit desecration of the flag are pretty popular with the public. Indeed, the only reason that no such laws obtain in the United States is that the Supreme Court has struck them all down. Three decades ago, 48 of the 50 states had passed laws prohibiting flag burning, and so had the federal government. Then, in 1989, the Court decided Texas v. Johnson, and in one fell swoop voided each and every one of them.

Are Anti-Trump Protesters Dumb Enough to Take the Bait?
By Jim Gerharty
Seemingly out of the blue, Donald Trump Tweeted, “Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!” He may have responded to a Fox News Channel report on veterans protesting Hampshire College in Amherst, which decided to remove all flags from campus. The college’s flag was found burned on Veterans’ Day.
Let’s get a key point out of the way: Stripping an American of his citizenship is thankfully difficult and rare. If you’re a naturalized citizen – born in a foreign country and legally becoming a citizen through the application and approval process – your citizenship can be revoked if the government learns you were ineligible, or you lied or hid important information about yourself. The Supreme Court has upheld an “unusually high burden of proof in denaturalization cases.”
Natural-born U.S. citizens cannot have their citizenship revoked, but can choose to renounce their citizenship. Notice the Constitution explicitly mentions death as a potential punishment for treason, but not loss of citizenship!
Several times in recent years, GOP lawmakers introduced legislation to allow revocation of citizenship for anyone providing material assistance to foreign terrorist organizations, or membership, training, and oaths of allegiance to terrorist groups. Some conservatives have questioned whether that change to the law is really necessary if U.S. policy is to arrest, detain, and/or drone-strike these people.
The big question in the coming days and weeks will be whether anti-Trump protesters have the self-control and self-awareness to realize that burning any American flags will play directly into Trump’s hands. As Charles pointed out, a ban on flag-burning is extremely popular, and most Americans instinctively detest the sight of the flag being burned. That’s the sort of provocation that raging anti-American mobs in foreign countries embrace. Of course, it’s likely that the most passionate – some would say unhinged – activists opposed to Trump are more interested in their own emotional catharsis than persuading the public about policy decisions.
Regardless of how they would justify their incendiary actions, any flag-burning anti-Trump protesters might as well hold up signs saying “we hate America,” because it will have the same effect on public opinion.

Then how am I supposed to dispose of my flag, you orange dumbass?

While not quite a B. O. "Marine Corpseman" (sic) moment, it does give pause WRT his understanding of proper flag disposal etiquette.

That said, most "flag burners" aren't conforming to the proper standard when they set fire to Old Glory, and they're not generally speaking retiring an old and worn flag either.

As far as I'm concerned if people want to burn the flag have at it. Who give a ****.

One final thing on popularity of anti-flag-burning laws. Hillary Clinton SPONSORED one in 2005 that featured a one-year prison sentence.

That moment when the MSM realizes Trump just took a position advocated by Hillary Clinton in 2005

Thanks. I'll remember that on January 21, when I take my flag downtown to dispose of it in front of the White House.

He's right. Wake me up when Don puts that pen to paper and actually signs an EO making it illegal to burn the flag.

I can wake you up now and note that the future president just said he thinks people should be jailed for exercising their first amendment rights.

Can he actually do it? No. But look what we elected.

I think Trump intentionally proposes the Clinton's own policies, just for kicks.
