  1. 1. Aside from not moving the team, how do you grade Pegula's perfomance so far as Bills owner?

  2. 2. Aside from not moving the team, how do you grade Pegula's perfomance so far as Sabres owner?

He made some huge mistakes when he started, and turned us into a below average team. He spent the last two years blowing the team up, and starting from scratch. Once he started doing that, things started looking up, and the turn around starts this year.

Please get the story correct. They did falter when they tried to buy a team in free agency. But the new GM, TIM Murray, deliberately tanked the team to draft Jack Eichel or Connor McDavid. (Think "Suck for Luck")

The team has a good roster of young players and vets with a Cup winning coach from the Penguins. Two months into the season they are starting to click. Best of all Eichel is proving to be the real deal.

Can anyone on here provide evidence they are not willing to devote whatever resources are necessary to produce a winner? What more can you ask of an owner?

Exactly!

That's what I'm saying, he blew te team up intentionally. That's when he started doing things right. It'll take another year or two before we know, but it already seems like those two purposeful tank years are gonna pay off.

who gives him an F for sabres....were you not informed of the plan that is coming into fruition

Yeah, results matter, not dreams and promises. Check is in the mail, doctor is in the office... Meanwhile check the results for 5 years before he bought the Sabers and the years since. Results matter. And we still have 15 years of 5 year plans and promises for the Bills and they have not changed any results. I'm getting too old to expect the results of the latest promises. This season is not over for the Sabers yet, it will be good if and only when they are actually a winner. They are not there yet. Bottom 3rd in the league and less than 500 is not competitive to me. I don't believe the check is in the mail till it is open and in my hand. Been burned by the Sabers and Bills my whole life and results are all that matters, not more excuses and false promises.

Nothing started turning around with the Sabres untill Darcy was fired. Stupid move to keep him on that long? Definitely. But if you want to compare the previous 5 years to his first five, we were heading down this path anyway, regarless of ownership.

Partially right (it is Tim Murray).

They faltered trying to enhance the existing squad. They were really bad, sniffing last overall a few of those seasons, only to make a 'late run' to ruin the draft position. They really started the tank under Darcy, but he was kind of slow with it. The Rolston hire as head coach, then re-hire after a "search" was a complete farce. Things got really ugly and Pegula was basically forced to get Darcy out, but the plan was the same. Now Murray has made some moves on his own, changing the course (OReilly, Kane, the tanky moves, getting Fasching, Carrier, Deslauriers, etc).

Define "a winner?" Over .500? Playoffs? Stanley Cup? This is year one of a new team. Some of the players are not even 20 yet. You can't cut them a little slack? Since you only want results, try not being a fan for a few years. When they are good you can hop on the bandwagon.

This season is going splendidly IMO.

OReilly, despite the payday is a workhorse beast. Kane looks great when he is in there (needs to convert chances though). Ristolainen is continuing to progress into an All-Star caliber defenseman. Eichel looks great and it looks like his ascent into the 40 goal range and beyond wont be too far off. Ullmark has looked decent and getting real NHL experience at such a young age. The most encouraging thing though is the progression of Reinhart.

Given this is a Bills website, I'll comment on that piece. They bought the team, have tried to improve the inafrastructure. kept a producing GM (you can debate, but i believe in Whaley), opened up their wallet and allowed the team to really spend to the cap with free agents that were needed to improve the offense. They also though they hired the biggest name coach who had success as a DC, a HC for the first two years, and some can blame the Jets GM for not replacing talent.

What ended up happening is a real question as to whether we hired the right coach, and a lot of very frustrated and disappointed fans.

I gave him a B for the job. The crappy part is if Rex is a bust, we're stuck with him for quite some time based on the committed money. For that reason, I really hope he turns it around.

Define a winner. Bottom 3rd in the league and less than 500 is not competitive to me. I don't expect a cup every year, but bottom third is not even competitive, much less having any real chance of being a winner.

Being insulted and told someone is not a fan because they want a team that has a decent chance to win reminds me of something an abused woman in denial says.

After her partner beats her up and abuses her, almost puts her in the hospital for the 15th time. He tells her how much he lovers her and promises to never do it again, for the 16th time. And she believes him. Till the next week he beats her up again.

That is the type of fan you think a real fan is. Like that abused woman, you believe that being a fan means you should endure years and years of abuse and lies about building a winning team. After all, they just told you they love you and will make it all better starting tomorrow, only tomorrow never comes. It is just like yesterday. Bottom third of the league.

And you justify it to yourself as progress because at least they are not THE WORST team like last year .I think the medical term used to describe your view of what a true fan is: "someone who is delusional and in denial".
