So most of us are on board that linebacker and safety play has severely hamstrung this year's defense.

But most people still want to believe it's the scheme to blame.

Okay.

Its the same guys that manned the fourth best D in the league last year and averaged over 3 sacks/game for 2 years. The only difference is coach and scheme so yeah..

There is clearly a mismatch between the new scheme and the personnel.

Any other assertion is baseless

the same guys? Half the defensive starters from last year have been out some or all of the season plus key rotational backups on the DL.

This year they have or had been missing for all or most of the season who played all or most of last season:

Leodis McKelvin

Aaron Willliams

D'norris Searcy

Kyle Williams

Brandon Spikes

Jarius Wynn

Ty Powell

And yesterday -

Mario Willliams

Nigel Bradham

This lame excuse might fly if they weren't awful early in the season when they were mostly healthy defensively.

It is utter bullsh*t to blame the precipitous drop in performance of this D on an injury to a marginal NFL player like Ty Powell or losing Dolores Searcy in FA.

Schwartz D put the playmaking responsibilities on the DL and away from LB's and safeties.

If those LB's and safeties are being exposed as less than pro bowl talent this year there is only Rex to blame for changing the emphasis of the D.

Rex sank this season to install his D and along the way he wore out his personnel and NOW apologists are using the injuries as an excuse.

Somebody had to take the fall. Rex should have been cut, but no no, can't do that.

You can take the fall if you want someone to blame. Start a petition to blame you and offer to show up in game 16 and let people throw tomatoes at you to get the irrationality out.
