This offseason. That question is:

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL !@#$ IS A CATCH

It boggles the mind at how many catch/no catch calls are botched weekly. Time for an overhaul of the rules

As discussed in other threads, they also need to consult with the NHL and understand how to implement a seamless and competent review system

exactly. When the NHL is beating your league, you have issues. Have a main review center. Not the officials reviewing their own calls. This will lead to more consistent reviews across the league as to what a catch is or isn't.

But it still won't help the Maple Leafs win anything.

yep, officials won't overrule calls they have made and look incompetent. this is the 90's man, have an office in NYC with officials that can review the plays from every angle and can do so quickly and efficiently

copy the college football system. Its great. They review every play. They simply radio into the Ump when a call needs to be changed. No stupid Red Flag. No silly video booth that the ref has to run to which is across the field.

College football is vastly superior

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO!

The question needs to be answered. But the competition committee has been trying to answer it for a decade, and making it immeasurably worse. For God's sake, give it to someone else to answer.

You are correct. Then give one challenge per team per game for any call on the field. All issues regarding possession, ball placement, catch or no catch are automatic reviews. But if the refs miss a push off by the WR an independent crew can determine if the call should be made/reversed. One challenge per game, use it wisely. Needs to be an independent crew so the guys that missed the call are not responsible for overturning themselves.

Agreed- they need a central review that reviews all plays and can just say if the Maclin catch didn't happen or Hogan made a catch. You could quickly and seamlessly adjust the call. It could be a bit tricky in hurry up time, though. That's what you would need to figure out.

Yeah, but if no one can explain what a catch is ...

We've seen catch plays called differently WITH instant replay. While the replay system needs work, that's a different issue. The catch rule needs work I agree.

I find it funny that the "guy in NY" often disagrees with the reviewed call on the field.
