Trump Is Quietly Winning Bigly At The Border

Issues & Insights, by The Editorial Board

Original Article

Last week, 18 people crossed the border illegally into Arizona hoping they could exploit a loophole in U.S. asylum policy to stay in the country. Instead, they found themselves shipped back to Mexico while their asylum claims are reviewed. In the midst of impeachment mania and the killing of an Iranian general, this event captured little attention. But it’s part of a broader campaign that the Trump administration has quietly embarked upon to crack down on illegal border crossings. And – even without the wall – these policies are having a huge impact.

I don’t care about the money or where they get it.

Just about the lives it saves. That’s hard for someone like you to understand, but it’s what actually matters.

So completion date is 2050?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced Friday that his state will not accept any new refugees in fiscal year 2020 after President Trump signed an executive order allowing governors to opt out of doing so.

Abbott noted in a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Texas has accepted more refugees than any other state since fiscal year 2010 on top of grappling with “disproportionate migration issues resulting from a broken federal immigration system.”

...

Texas is the first state to opt out of accepting new refugees under the policy. Over 30 governors from both parties already said as of last month that they will continue accepting new refugees.

Mexicali Police Chief Maria Elena Andrade confirmed that a red alert has been issued at the Mexicali border due to a possible Iranian terrorist threat.

According to Andrade, the terrorist advisory was received Thursday from Customs and Border Protection in Arizona.

“We received reports that four nationals of Iran possibly carrying explosives were going to attempt to cross the border in the area of San Luis to Mexicali. We were told it was three men and a woman to be on the lookout for, “ said Andrade.

Judge clears way for construction of private US-Mexico border fence

Three miles of border wall will soon go up on private land on the banks of the Rio Grande after a federal judge on Thursday lifted an injunction, allowing a construction firm to move forward with the project.

With the landowner’s blessing, Fisher Industries in November brought in tractors to the property in Hidalgo County, Texas, clear-cut brush from the Rio Grande to 40 yards inland and graded the riverbank.

The project is being partially funded by We Build the Wall, a Florida nonprofit whose online fundraisers championing President Donald Trump’s efforts to wall off the U.S.-Mexico border have raised $25 million.

Interesting that it was the federal government who brought the suit.

Clearly the apprehensions are down because Trump is an evil actual literal super mecha-Nazi, and not because of the wall (or the ending of the catch-and-release bogus-asylum claim scam.)

Or, you know, court decisions coming in.

2 years ago I said he would be making the wall an election promise again next election and he will.
