I love the way the bracketed Gronk. Hot off the line, release to the the next level. I do believe the only to defend Gronk is play him that way and not have the defender be in close to Grink. He is so damn strong and big, when he does that stop move and brings his arms up, the DB/LB flies off him, and the ref does not have enough to call a push off.

I can't remember if it was this thread or another but someone mentioned brady's late duck and assumed he can't throw a deep ball. That's not the case. IMO what happened there was...no immediate pressure on him, but he felt it anyway and didn't step into the throw even though I think he could have. That's what can happen if you're around him all game.

Absolutely! You have to get in Brady's face and knock him down. Every time he's ever faced constant pressure, he gets rattled. Sure he'll make plenty of great throws and they'll score. He already knows exactly what the defensive call is and where to throw every time so you can never completely shut him down, but if you hit him snd knock him around... Even late, you can force him to rush and be off target.

Sitting back in any sort of zone and giving him time to throw will never confuse him and will never slow them down. You can't confuse someone that already knows the defensive call.. .you can only hope to pressure him into making a bad throw.

Defensive line needs to play it straight. No time for stunts or delayed blitzes. It's been said a million times & it's still true, the pressure has to come up the middle. If that means some strange fronts then do it. Mario & Hughes rushing from over the guards may work a time or two.

but stunts are often where you get your middle pressure

I just dont want to see Brady's jersey all clean at the end of the game.....get him dirty a little bit

our coaches and players had a solid game against the Jets. i hope they can execute as well against the Pats. i'm guessing we'll start in a 6 man front - 3-3 looking like a 4-2.

the Edelman injury is a huge blow to their O because he's a wonderful complementary player to Gronk, Amendola, and LaFell.

the Pats will have to substitute bench players whose best skills - speed, quickness, hands, toughness, etc - complement those core guys, on a situation by situation basis.

Belickick can't be certain how these guys will react, and it's gotta be driving him nuts right now.

so i think we'll see a bigger commitment to the run right away - to get us into 7 man fronts his core guys can attack

This article was posted just before Rex and Thurman were hired but thought it was worthy of repost. Good read!

Perry Fewell/Dick Jauron did this several times to Brady if I remember...not the same thing as Thurman but came out with some very confusing things that Brady had a hard time figuring out...one of the only things they did well, unfortunately...

The key this week is preventing Gronk from getting a clean release from the line. Hit him each and every time. Losing Edelman/Lewis is going to hurt Brady this week no doubt but this game is going to come more down to how well our offense does against their defense if ask me. Hopefully Tyrod has learned to not take sacks like he did in Week 2 and maybe can limit some of his costly mistakes to have a chance to win this one.

He says he's going to throw it deep to Lafell

@BenVolin: From @GlobeWhitmer, #Patriots are adding the long ball to their attack https://t.co/9S1cvEpgyO

To me Brady is more dangerous with his short passing/move the chains offense, this is actually something that could benefit us.
