It is quite simple actually. If you are in America (and we are) the sun rises over the Atlantic ocean and sets over the Pacific. If you are singing the song in the morning, the shining sea is obviously the Atlantic. If you are singing the song in the afternoon, the shining sea would be the Pacific. Capiche?

Well if the song says that the same land belongs to everybody, I'm not sure that such socialist ideology has any place in the patriotic songs of a capitalist nation. The deeper I look, the more disturbing the submersive lyrics of our patriotic songs get.
