Excellent analysis and we appreciate the hard work.

Upshaw is a good fit for Rex D.

Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and Nigel Bradham are terrible fits in this D and Manny Lawson was washed up last year so if Rex isn't going to adapt it may come down to replacing these guys, even if it means taking gigantic cap hits.

We've seen how catastrophic huge personnel changes to fit scheme are, but you also can't jam square pegs into round holes so something has to give.

Hughes can work in this D. Dareus isn't really the right fit either and he is going to be miserable tying up blockers but he can make it in any scheme.

I would add though that Hankerson has a lot of track ability but he just has bad hands/ball skills and that's why he never really made it at Miami or in the pros.

Doug didn't get along with Maroon either makes me wonder if he is more difficult to deal with than when he appears cool an collected in front of us? Wonder how Chan got a long with him?

I would have to think Rex wins the power struggle, also he has tied up a ton of money into the D-line when it should have gone to the LBs in Rex's system

I agree with most of the article but I'd rather get or draft a good pass rushing LB not some run stuffing one, also would rather draft a RT then spend big bucks on one unless we can get a quality starter at a decent price.

in your article you have Goodwin remaining...does anyone think the Bills will hang onto Goodwin? As a former track guy I love Goodwin but he does seem to be injured more than healthy and its a lost roster spot with him every year

Upshaw is a good fit for Rex D.

>>>Upshaw, who stands 6’1” and is a bulky 275 pounds, is physical at the point of attack and rarely surrenders ground in the run game.<<<

275? That is NOT the Courtney Upshaw I saw at Bama. Badol, Courtney used to cover receivers as if he was a defensive back AND, qb sacks, and he was always tough to run on. He was absolutely great in every college game but he had lots of medical and substance problems in the NFL. What I do admire about him is that when he was down and out he went back to have a big time talk with Coach Saban.

I don't usually like for the Bills to take chances on guys with substance issues. That said, a healthy and focused Upshaw would be a pro bowl player, and I say this without a shred of doubt.

And yes, the work was excellent!

Great link. As for who the Bills will target, I found Kris Jenkins' comments very interesting. He's talking about the types of players Rex needs to enjoy success -- basically, grounded vets on the d-line and o-line who don't get caught up in the carnival barker BS. I suggest that everyone check the comments out, which are about 2/3 of the way into the piece:

Great idea by Dunne to interview Jenkins, btw. He is a legitimately good football writer - the best the News has had in my memory.
