every week someone says they have a plan. Then game time comes up and he's wide open running for TDs.

You would think at some point someone would look at how teams defended the run n shoot in the 90's since that's basically what NE is right now. They don't hv any deep passing game to speak of so its short and intermediate passes all game.

 

Not saying they could shut NE down but teams seemed to be able to defend the run n shoot better than they can defend the spread these days which is basically the same thing

Defer is the right call every time.

 

It's the only decision you can make in a game that has the possibility of giving you back to back possessions without a turnover.

Exactly. There is no debating this one. Plus at home you don't give the opponent a " quiet stadium" possession to start the 2nd half. On the road, you guarantee your offense gets one. Defer is always the right call.

I think the strategy then was to punish the receivers. Defenders can't do that now.
