Rico Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't remember Jerry Butler getting called out for being injury-prone, though that was indeed pre-social media and pre-internet. Looks to me like Sammy's got that kind of talent, if not even more. I'm disappointed but I'm willing to wait on him.

Butler was the best I remember on the Bills, but, injuries kept him from reaching his potential. Hope the same isn't true for Sammy. While I disliked his public "just give me the damn ball" statement the ball should be forced his way when he comes back.
NoSaint Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) You can call it an illusion if you think it strengthens your point, I'd call it a fact. He's been ignored to OK to very good. That isn't what is expected when 2 first round picks are given up for one guy. Questions about the pick(s) are valid, but, it's too soon to draw any conclusions.Julio jones 54 catches, 959 yards and 8 tdsSammy 65 catches, 982 yards and 6 tds Aj green 65, 1057 and 7 tds Looking at the premium top notch picks at wr that have emerged to be the leagues elite.... Is it that Sammy didn't live up to expectations or that you might have had ridiculous expectations that he couldn't have lived up to? Despite dealing with poor qbs and poor scheme and poor coaching and broken ribs he was right there with the best Edited October 31, 2015 by NoSaint

I would question Whaleys reach before i would question Watkins value in regard to his draft circumstance. 7 games in.. I say we just hold off judgement on the team till the seasons end. Maybe we all we have a different take when the dust settles after the final whistle to end our season. Ps I sure am glad we reached bye week! We All, need to heal up and refocus for the second half of Bills football season.

He had an OK rookie season and he is in a horrendous sophomore slump. I don't mind that this is good enough for you, my expectations on & off the field are higher. There are what, 7(?) wrs that have topped 1000 yards as a rookie in the last 50 years? What were your expectations? That he produce one of the 2-3 best seasons in the history of the NFL to be called successful?
What a Tuel Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 There are what, 7(?) wrs that have topped 1000 yards as a rookie in the last 50 years? What were your expectations? That he produce one of the 2-3 best seasons in the history of the NFL to be called successful? I think that capitalizes on how good that rookie WR class was. However no one seems to be talking on how the rest of the class is doing now. Beckham's production is down from last year. Kelvin Benjamin is out for the year (Whaley's head would be on a platter in that scenario) Mike Evan's was injured, and production is down from last year Brandin Cook's was injured half of last year, and doing decent this year. Marqise Lee has been dealing with injuries a lot this year Jordan Matthew's has been less productive than Sammy in his rookie year. Davante Adams has been dealing with injuries Martavis Bryant has been inactive because of 4 game suspension, comes back and is injured his first week - otherwise productive Jarvis Landry has been less productive than Sammy in his rookie year Allen Robinson has been the highlight this year projected to have 1,339 yards and 13 tds But anyone can see the trend of injuries does not stop at Sammy Watkins.

He played ok in some games, was invisible in others and was very good in the balance. People touted Manuel's early games at one time. I don't see that much any more because a few games does not a career make. Remember Eddie Brown? He was drafted ahead of Jerry Rice and in his rookie year his numbers were 53/942/8.

Clearly I was referring to a successful rookie season- obviously I wasn't referring to his career or long term being defined.
YoloinOhio Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) Sammy has a ton of talent and is a huge part of the offense's effectiveness regardless of the QB. He's 22 and imo WRs hit their prime after about 2-3 years in the league. He's a very young player. We want him healthy and he's had a a streak of bad luck this year where he's actually been held out, but was able to play hurt last year. Let's just all hope he's on the field going forward. When he is, good things usually happen. The social media stuff is part of society - not worried about that affecting the team or his performance. Edited October 31, 2015 by YoloinOhio

Chimp Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Of course. Fan interest is a huge driver and fans have an insatiable appetite for the NFL. But the TV networks are driving the economic engine. 26CornerBltz - Advertisers put spots in certain programming. Programming that they know people watch. So, no fans watching, no advertising money. No ad money, poor ratings, much smaller TV contracts. The consumer drives the economy.

Moreover, a receiver's stats are largely a product of the guy throwing to him and the quality of the offense overall. Looking at WR stats in isolation isn't wise.

Good post. Believe it or not, I still like the trade and commend Whaley for it. Watkins' career is very far from over. I feel like people are unaware that he'll be 22 years old at mini-camp NEXT year.

This stands out as too high of risk to trade that much. Then and now. The O line under Marrone will remain a mystery to me. who owns that needs a kick in the shin too Edited November 1, 2015 by 3rdand12
