fridge Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Has anyone else wondered about the use of Easley, especially with our often depleted WR group? I'd like to think that the former 4th round pick is capable of playing the position and he often excels in preseason. Why is it a given that "preseason star" Hogan is automatically given an opportunity in the season, but Easley is overlooked? I get that he's the special teams ace but even there he can be used more. Why is Boom Herron returning kick offs? Easley had a 55 yard return his first season with the Bills and has a KR for a TD in a preseason. He seems more than capable of handling that role, and certainly is an upgrade to Herron and Dixon (honestly, why are they the ones back there?) It was great to see Easley get that touchdown on Sunday, I just hope that's not the last we ever hear of him.
buffaloboyinATL Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I believe we would be seeing more of him right now, with our depleted WR situation, except he is dealing with injuries of his own. But I agree, I love seeing him utilized in the passing game and hope we continue to get him out there.
GunnerBill Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Hogan played pretty well as well out there on Sunday. Hogan and Woods were both good in the absence of Sammy and Harvin. I did note at the game how rarely they were running a third guy out - and when they did it was often Shady or Clay split wide. Fair play to Easley though - he made the play when it was there for him. The way I look at it you earn your time. Hogan's reps keep going up because he answers the bell - if Easley does the same he will get more opportunities. Believe me as someone who was there - receivers getting separation was not the problem on Sunday. Charles Clay was free a number of times in the middle of the field and ignored. Not sure why - it seems like the scheme really doesn't encourage throwing in the middle of the field. Edited October 27, 2015 by GunnerBill

I guess my only issue is that he's not getting an opportunity to answer the bell (or so it appears).

Well he did on Sunday - last time I remember him getting any significant snaps was that Jets home game we won where he was outplayed by Goodwin, Hogan and TJ Graham.... and that was the end of him on offense for basically two full years. This time he showed up - I too hope he is rewarded with more opportunities. Edited October 27, 2015 by GunnerBill
NoSaint Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 because hogan has played better than easley in the preseason, and regular season chances he has received.
NOVABillsFan Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Weren't people calling for Easley to be released to bring in offensive talent recently?

Easley reminds me a lot of Tasker, as it got late in Taskers career we started to see him at WR more, I hope the same is true of Easley.
Maury Ballstein Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Easley > hogan. Catch the ball scrub. Nice easy drop by Clay too. Pay him more! This team blows.
NoSaint Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Easley > hogan. Catch the ball scrub. Nice easy drop by Clay too. Pay him more! This team blows. have you missed the easley drops in years past? theyve both had hiccups with that.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) My wild a$$ guess is... I've never seen him run anything other than a go... Maybe he can't run the route tree. He's fast, physical with decent size. Maybe he can be the deep threat... A la Jacoby Jones, but he's not better than Hogan at WR, by a long shot. Edited October 27, 2015 by over 20 years of fanhood
mountainwampus Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Gotta agree. I have no idea what Easley amounts to as a WR, but I do know that he's one of the best players I've ever seen when he covers kicks (since Tasker). It's notable that in preseason he was diving for catches. Doesn't matter if it's against 3rd stringers, a diving catch is a diving catch and he looked spectacular. And Hogan? He has been the least productive WR (since TJ Graham) despite all his chances. Being an elite Lacrosse athlete doesn't necessarily translate into being an elite WR.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Weren't people calling for Easley to be released to bring in offensive talent recently? Only those who don't appreciate his value to the team.
mountainwampus Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 have you missed the easley drops in years past? theyve both had hiccups with that. Thad threw him a bad pass once and he dropped it. So, do we give wideouts a single chance?
Dave in Avon Lake now Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I saw Easley when he was at UConn and he was tremendous with many big plays. I wish they would use him more particularly with the current WR injury problems. BTW what has happened to Clay? He seems to have disappeared from the offense the last few weeks.
Alphadawg7 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I literally posted in the shout box during the game to put Easley in as he has more playmaking ability then the show pass specialists we had in the game. 5 to 10 min later TD to Easley showing exactly what I was championing about the kid and have said about him for a long time. People forget that Easley is a guy that we have had teammates and QBs in the past rave about in workouts, including Fitz. He had a couple of unfortunate things that derailed that knocking him out for the season...when he returned he was too far down the depth chart and focused on ST and became a stud ST player. Now, its like he's been stuck in that ST role and forgotten about as a WR prospect as the regime here was not around when Easley was showing off his ability as a WR prospect. Yet I have seen this kid make lots of big plays during practice and preseason when he has had a few opportunities. It never gets him much consideration because of the low talent he's playing against, so he just can't get out of that ST ace role. However, with the injuries to our other WRs I feel the time is NOW to give this kid a bigger role. If Watkins and Harvin are out, he should at the very least be the WR3. Honestly, I would start Easley and Woods on the outside and Hogan in the slot. Hogan has NO business being anywhere but the slot. Easley has more big play ability then either Woods or Hogan, so he can help stretch the D, and given how little he's been used, he is likely to see a lot of one on one which he can beat with his size and speed. That being said, I expect Watkins and probably Harvin to be back after the bye in a make or break game against the surging Dolphins. So now he's going to have 4 people ahead of him in that case, but I still think they need to find a way to get hims some snaps. #FreeEasley #GoBills #GiveHimeAshot
Maury Ballstein Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 have you missed the easley drops in years past? theyve both had hiccups with that. Give me the upside, especially with Sammy out. Offense is too vanilla.
machine gun kelly Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I've always wondered why they wouldn't give him more touches. I've watched him the last four years and when he was out there, he didn't drop more passes than others on the team at the time. He has height, size, and not sure on the route tree, but no one else knows that either. With Harvin probably retiring, we're going to need him on 4 WR sets. For the love of God, just don't put out EJ again. Get Josh Johnson a billion reps in the next two weeks if you have to as a back up. He was never great, but he is better than EJ. I followed him here in Tampa, and then watched a little play in SF. He's not a starter, but he is better than Manuel. God, please cut him. send a message you can't single handedly lose a game for us. Belicheck when a runner fumbles gets benched. Our guys throws three picks and we defend him in a press conference.
