3rdand12 Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 There are also other humans on the field who are supposed to help mitigate the mistakes. Where was the back judge on the play? Why didn't he throw the flag too? He's the one with the best view of it. If he had the better view and didn't throw the flag why didn't they confer and pick up the flag? This is something worth mentioning. If the back judge does not make the call and the side judge does, should a little conference occur? I dont mind waiting a bit longer for issues like this to get ironed out. Or possibly have communication via mics and headsets. Hey Joe, that looked clean , your sure ya wanna stick with that call? Well Mike , what did you think? Lets confab real quick guys! I dont care for commercial breaks but they are coming anyways. The refs need to take a bit more time, and be able to admit they were wrong in real time. stop the play and get it right.
Nanker Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Look what happened to Duke yesterday. They got hosed big time. It happens.
Slack_in_MA Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Yeah but at least the refs got suspended in that case.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Look what happened to Duke yesterday. They got hosed big time. It happens. Anyone else see the green between the ball and the goal line when the Seahawks azz was planted firmly on the turf in Dallas? blown call IMO. Bench that officiating crew for a week or 2. CodeMonkey Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Anyone else see the green between the ball and the goal line when the Seahawks azz was planted firmly on the turf in Dallas? blown call IMO. Bench that officiating crew for a week or 2. You can see where in real time they could make the wrong call. But the reviewers that called it a TD have some explaining to do.
Nanker Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Likely it wasn't game changing though. They would have scored from the four inch line no doubt. Bad call though. But not as bad as Vinny Testaverde's called TD - when his HELMET crossed over the goal line on a keeper play. The ball never made it past the one yard line.
thebandit27 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 The officiating in that Seahawks-Cowboys game was the worst I've seen all season...and that is really saying something. The timeout fiasco was abominable. Pete Carroll calls a 2nd timeout during the same stoppage, which is an automatic 15-yard penalty. Instead of assessing the penalty, the officials stop the game, tell him he cannot do that, and then place the ball back into play, at which time Seattle snaps the ball with 12 men on the field. Then, instead of assessing a penalty for too many men, they say that they erred in not allowing Seattle to substitute since they called a timeout (one that should've been a 15-yard penalty), and therefore there is no penalty for too many men. And then a penalty for a "blind side block" on Ricardo Lockette, when Lockette himself tried to push the guy that laid him out (Heath). They were face to face, and Heath made the better play. There's not a penalty for hitting too hard in the rule book. Total and complete incompetence.
Augie Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Look what happened to Duke yesterday. They got hosed big time. It happens. No kidding! They got hosed multiple times on the same play. It's like the refs left early. And it definitely cost them the game. Period. Game over.

The NFL is doing so well financially they don't even seem to care that their refs are consistently bad across the board.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 You can see where in real time they could make the wrong call. But the reviewers that called it a TD have some explaining to do. exectally real time call it a TD, in slow mo and frame by frame (which I did) no TD. Likely it wasn't game changing though. They would have scored from the four inch line no doubt. Bad call though. But not as bad as Vinny Testaverde's called TD - when his HELMET crossed over the goal line on a keeper play. djp14150 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 If you guys are talking about that TD play: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/11/seattle-seahawks-catch-ruled-touchdown-wrong-short-of-end-zone-butt-replay-luke-willson-russell-dallas-cowboys Its a judgement of when his but hit the ground. You cant tell for sure his but hit the ground (cloth doesn't count) Its when you have certain but compression is happening at which point the ball is breaking the plane. This is also not factoring in angles of view.
