Schwartz benefited from all different linebackers from Pettine, who were all pretty good against the run, with Spikes, Bradham and Brown (Bradham was on the team but he was still a punk and wasnt ready to play until the last few games with Pettine, and he did very well).

Rex's problem is his inability to get to the passer. This defense is stopping the run, but unable to rush the passer. Different problems for Pettine while in Buffalo as well as in Cleveland.

I know that generally this board did not like Spikes for his attitude and off field issues. But I think his positive effect on the field last year is often sadly overlooked when comparing the defenses of last year and this. He may not have been an all down back, but he really helped the team to be a great defense last year.

Cleveland can't stop the run OR rush the passer. Though that's probably also because they don't have as much talent coming off the edge and they can't blitz much right now with most of the secondary injured. Edited by YoloinOhio

Not Rex's problem but our players need to step up and play better.
