Gay was getting touchbacks on at least half his kickoffs. Cundiff could not kick though the end zone and Carpenter can't either. Is that one extra spot on the roster really worth giving the other team field position past the 20, sometimes, given our pathetic coverage lately, WAY past the 20?

Rex looks more and more like a guy who thinks he is smart instead of a person who IS smart.

What was that line about some politician, "He's the dumb person's idea of a smart person." Rex is the dumb fan's idea of a defensive genius.

Dont go there. I tried to ask that question in the shoutbox and the local experts said I was an idiot and it was much to do about nothing.

I think we will all look back after the season and see this as a poor decision. His kicks obviously masked a crap special teams unit.

Rex is the perfect compliment to Brandon and Whaley, three brilliant self promoters.

With the injuries piling up we needed people at other spots. If McCoy tweaks his hammy on the first play u have 2 rbs. We saw the wr depth becoming a problem.

We were also the only team in the league with a kos. And people gave us crap for that too.

Damned if you do, damned if u dont

When you have a kick-off specialist, he should be getting touchbacks on most of his kicks. That's what he's on the team for. Otherwise, you're wasting a roster spot. If the kick-off team could tackle, Carpenter's kicks would not be a big deal.

No other team has two kickers, neither should we. Yes having a real player is more important than another kicker.

Because it's a waste to have two kickers when one of them can't even kick FG.

Kickers have handled field goals and kickoffs forever. Some teams have the punter kick off is he has a huge leg.

The kicker has one freaking job: kick the damn ball a few times a game. Why would you need 2?

Why keep two? Because:

1.) you need a kicker who is accurate on FG's and PAT's. That guy is not always good on Kick offs

2.) Field position is important. If you have a kickoff specialist who can boot it through the endzone regularly so the opposition is starting at the 20 versus a kicker who gets it to the 3 yard line and bad kick coverage lets your opponent start at the 30 or better, you should keep a kickoff specialist.

I did bash the Bills for carrying a kick-off specialist and wasting a roster spot. But the past 2 weeks, I have learned just how important that position was to he Bills and I was wrong. They are consistently losing the field position battle. Of course fair catching punts at the 4 or 5 yard line doesn't help! The kickoff after the first TD, really sticks out. The Bengals have great field position at the 35 and add on another stupid penalty and they are at the 49 to start. Then punt and pin the Bills at their own 11. Bills punt and Cincy starts the drive at the Buffalo 49 and go on to score a TD. Bills lost the field position battle against Tennessee as well. It's the little things that add up and cutting Gay looks to be a really bad move.
