BillsNYC
Has anybody been following the news in Buffalo the last 2 weeks with the major budget crisis? Hundreds of jobs are being lost, parks are closed (including Chesnut Ridge,) plowing isn't being done in parts. It's gotten very serious. You may ask what this has to do with football. Well, if Ralph (God bless him) passes on, Erie County may not have the money to maintain them. Bass Pro may even be pulling out.

And yes, Chesnut Ridge is barricaded. If you don't think this is a major crisis, then you're in as much denial as Bledsoe supporters.

Worst of all, when I made the obligitory comments of "This area is such a pit now, I'm never coming back," the only responses I got from long-time residents were along the lines of "Yeah, I wish I could get out. You're lucky." There was a time, not too long ago, when people would defend the virtues of the region...

MarkyMannn
I was thinking about starting this thread myself the last couple weeks. The Ridge has been closed 2-3 weeks now. Although they let sledders "tresspass" and go down the hill by the Casino. ATV's and snowmobiles however are completely forbidden. And why? Taxpayer punishment? Not a single park worker is out of a job yet. They are all still there, just closing the park to punish the taxpayer and bring negative publicity to the whole fiasco. Where I live, West Seneca, a week ago when we had snow, county roads did not get plowed until the next day. Town roads where fine The riding at the park REALLY bothers me. I pay hundreds of $$$ per year in insurance and registration, and the one legal time of the year I can ride in Erie County, the county closes it? "F" them all, shut down the whole county
MarkyMannn
A lot of other thoughts, in no order, and maybe some emotional or irrational, I don't care any more. 1) 10,000 people work for the county! Doing what?!?!? We really need that many? 2) With state, federal, county, local towns and villages and schools, how many people work for the above in Erie County? Maybe 40,000 as a guess. No wonder our taxes are where they are 3) Giambra should resign, his credibility and management skills are a joke. No one wants to see him here any more 4) DeBenedetti is a bigger joke. He'll vote for the extra % if he can resign and take a $120,000 post with the Water Authority. Then he crabs about patronage 5) There is no real effort still to re-shape goverment. Increases taxes and continue with how we always do everything. 6) How many years until we are at 10%, 3 years, 11% in 5 years? Why not? 7) Today the Legislature says the 9% will be temporary

zow2
The city of Buffalo and WNY needs to start coming up w/ a National marketing blitz to show off the Bills like Green Bay does with the Pack. I mean Green Bay is some kind of national Folklore with their Lambeau Field and Bratwurst eating small market cheesehead fans. Do you think anyone in the country would ever stand for Green Bay getting moved to LA? Meanwhile Buffalo is this depressing schitty little city with a concrete bland stadium sitting in the middle of nothing. Our National presence is Tim Russert and Chris Berman circling the wagons. We need something to make it so the country will be outraged if the Bills ever think about leaving. just ranting here...
SDS
the problem is the county doesn't provide enough services, so people leave. An influx of new spending progams will attract new residents and businesses.

kasper13
I live in Erie County (Lancaster) and I have been following the story. The only crisis is that the government is fat, bloated and way out of shape. 10,000 people work for the county. There are way too many patronage jobs (The County Executive has over 20 family members & friends on the County payroll at a $1 million a year) and the county spends money like a drunken whore after a week working at the Bunny Ranch. Yes, a few parks are closed. That's about all. They will reopen. The County Executive threatened all kinds of things that he had no leagl right to do. The County Legislature is cutting $113 million worth of jobs and perks. That's needed to downsize the gov't and get their spending of our tax dollars in line. No sales tax increase either. That should all be done by Thursday. Bills & Erie County have a lease agreement. The county can't back out of it and tell the Bills to leave. There would be total anarchy if that happened.
