johnwalter Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Love Tyrod, but this is a joke. He had a below-average game at best. Praising that kind of stat line is like a baseball play-by-play man announcing that a hitter is leading first basemen in triples at away games during the month of august - or something along those lines - like why, because he has two?
Saxum Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 100 yards is easy, 1 catch is easy...however 70 yards running is tough. Even for running backs! It is the catching which makes the difference, I think many QBs could have it if OCs wanted to scheme it. The previous rushing QB record was held by Fritz.
Nanker Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Jack Concannon might be another. EDIT: Nope. He had a game in 66 with a catch, but didn't rush but for seven yards in that game. Edited October 15, 2015 by Nanker

I don't think that anyone is praising his stat line as a great game played. The HOF is recognizing a statistical accomplishment that very few players have ever achieved. It's kind of like a kicker hitting a 65-yard FG in a game where he misses 2 others; the HOF would still recognize that.
BuffaloHokie13 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Maybe I'm bad at pro football reference, but when I run the query I only see 2 players
billsfan89 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 It might not be on display, it might just be something they preserve and bring out later on in some sort of display if something relevant pops up (Like inducting a running QB to the hall or something).
Nanker Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Maybe I'm bad at pro football reference, but when I run the query I only see 2 players They might be pre 1966. I just checked all the teams that year. Jack Concannon was the only possible one (he caught a pass in a game), but his other stats don't make it. Tyrod Taylor- HOFer and he got there before Matt Cassel.
LeGOATski Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 So what's the cut off? Does the 6th guy who does it have his jersey sent to the HOF? How about the 27th? Yes. There doesn't need to be a cut-off. It's an acknowledgement of unique QBs.
bacarri and coke Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I remember swing it on nfl network it was Cunningham and three guys from long ago like 1940's...I remember it being only one player from the modern era

NoSaint Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Isn't that why? It's only been done 4 other times.rare in that its more so a play calling quirk of a pass to the qb being odd, not in ability to catch 1 ball. the 100 yards passing is a gimme, and 70 yards rushing kind of rare based on ability. it strikes me as nifty quirk not all time great. machine gun kelly Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 As the great Bill Parcells says "Lets not put him in Canton Yet". I think it's great his jersey will go into Canton. Now get healthy and make an impact at the next week he can do it. I'm hopeful all of the EJ guys on this board are right, and he does a great job the next two weeks, so after the bye we have everyone back. Can you imagine if we were to beat the Bengals, Jags, have a bye, get healthy, and beat the Fish and the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets? I hate dreaming like this, but it is possible. We'd go into Foxboro 7-2. Probably 6-3 though. I'm really worried about this weekend.

LeGOATski Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 it strikes me as nifty quirk not all time great. Most definitely. I think that's how it strikes everybody. Surprised it did not happen with Slash. It's Chan Gailey's fault.
Nick the Greek Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 It's the catch that makes it unusual. QBs rarely catch balls eh?
LeGOATski Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 They should've let Hogan take snaps at RB. Maybe his jersey would be in, too.
