YoloinOhio Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 You need ESPN Insider to read this whole article, which I don't have but I know many of you do. It looks very interesting wrt insight into the legalities and effectiveness of the pick play and how the NFL will be responding. I have seen a few NFL people say that they think it will now be a point of emphasis for the league... http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/story/_/id/13873834/breaking-nfl-most-lethal-pick-plays?ex_cid=InsiderTwitter_Bowen_NationalPickLeague
Roger Goodell Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The NFL is conducting a thorough review of game footage involving instances of the so called 'pick play'. If we conclude teams are gaining an unfair advantage using this technique, you can expect the officials to make it a point of emphasis to penalize appropriate teams for pick violations.

GunnerBill Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The pick play is already illegal in some circumstances. The problem for the refs is they have to have eyes on 2 spots at the exact same time. They are normally pretty good at calling offensive PI when a receiver attempts to pick a DB who is already engaged with another receiver - that is called I'd say 80-90% of the time. Where that is not the case however, and what makes it an illegal pick is simply that the blocking receiver is engaged with the DB too early it is a case of judgement - when did the "pick" occur against when was the ball thrown it is hard to have eyes in two places especially when it all happens in close proximity and on a play where the QB is getting the ball out quick.
