I haven't researched this yet, but to call offsides on the first kickoff of a game when Easley was approx 12 inches offsides really seems somewhat pre-planned (like the refs were specifically looking to !@#$ with us). I understand it is a violation and, yes, they were justified. But I have to think other kickoff teams have done this a lot more often than not. I'm wagering that offsides on a kickoff has been called maybe 4 times in the last five years. Anyone capable of researching this?

It was a chickenschit call made only because we recovered the fumbled kickoff. No turnover, no offside called on the KO.

GO BILLS!!!

They threw the flag as the ball was kicked IIRC.

If it turns out that it was only 4 times in the past 5 years, does that confirm that it was "preplanned" by the refs?

No research necessary...

Yeah, I understand the ref threw it before the kick was fumbled, but it seemed almost premeditated. The point is "how many times has offsides been called on the opening kickoff"....shoot, on any kickoff? It has to be rare.

Just as likely that it wasn't. It seemed they were waiting for any reason to throw a flag against us.

The one thing that comes to mind is Whisenhunt mentioning to the refs that the Bills have a new KO guy so the refs would pay extra attention.

Not dirty, IMO.

Posted this elsewhere but---- Tasker specifically said the rule is that if your foot touches over the line before the kick you are offsides- they ran the replay- froze the frame showing his leg ahead of the line- when they resumed the clip his foot then hit - after the kick-

if Tasker is right, he was not offsides. As an aside, what bug does Tasker have up his hiney about the Bills?

Not sure about this call but either way I felt like the Unnecessary Roughness call against Graham that kept the Titans' late drive alive was far worse.

I thought the same; didn't see his foot hit down.

That said, we should never be offsides on a kick. There is zero excuse.

To what purpose? We hear this every week. Why?

Hello?????????? I already said he was offsides (or appeared to be). The point is: Why was the ref specifically looking for this 12" infraction on the opening kickoff? It is not a regular type penalty. If anyone has stats on this (how many times offsides is called on a kickoff) I'd like to know because it seems to me that 12" is not much of an advantage and has been overlooked for the last five years (or more).

That was all on Whaley/Ryan.

They made the change from Gay to Cundiff and on Cundiff's first kickoff, someone goes offsides because they are used to Jordan Gay being quicker to the ball than Cundiff...

Because it's the side judges job to see if anyone is offsides on the kickoff. Why do you think they position a ref there?

Huh? That's a big cop out. It's the players responsibility to not go offsides. Full stop.

Just dumb play, even if the timing was off...
