billsfan_34 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 The offense gets better in the second half after Roman takes the handcuffs off. That's encouraging. The defense FINALLY started playing elite in the second half of this game, getting after it, hustling to the ball, and being aggressive. That's encouraging. There is a lot that needs to be cleaned up, and Roman needs to not game plan this offense to death, but there's plenty to be excited about. Keep in mind how long the defense was on the field in the first half. Most defenses would lf been exhausted and quiit but not this one.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) I can get optimistic. They were without 2 great players, a promising up-and-coming backup RB, and the breasts were coming off a bye week and at home, where the Bills haven't won since 2000. Don't fall into the trap Doc. Step away from the edge, the fall will kill you. I fear an even uglier game and a azz whooping by the Bungles. (on local TV in the DC area) Keep in mind how long the defense was on the field in the first half. Most defenses would lf been exhausted and quiit but not this one. 2 quick comments - A) Who's fault was that? B) They proved the announcers wrong just after saying that they were wearing down. Chandler#81 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I'll be more optimistic if they won convincingly next week Really? 'if they win convincingly next week'?? So, if we beat Cincy 14-13 on the strength of Tyrod's leg-heroics late in the 4th quarter, you'll stay pessimistic? Good.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Kind of funny because the only other 3 and 2 teams are the Colts and the Giants. You are half right there. The Bills whooped up on Andrew Luck and the Colts (3-0 w/o Andrew) and the Giants defeated the Bills. Really? 'if they win convincingly next week'?? So, if we beat Cincy 14-13 on the strength of Tyrod's leg-heroics late in the 4th quarter, you'll stay pessimistic? Good. sure why not. Cincy has a history of falling down often. I'm in the club of "I still will not be overly optimistic".
Kirby Jackson Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I think that the Bills are a good, not great, team at the moment. They have an offense built to feature their dynamic skill players and they didn't play yesterday. Of course the offense was going to struggle with the guys in the backfield and without Watkins commanding the attention that he does. At the end of the day they did what good teams do and found a way to win. I am still a little underwhelmed by the gameplan. The Bills showed up yesterday without those weapons so the gameplan was to try to protect Tyrod. That was foolish IMO. With those guys out he was the offensive weapon that you needed to feature. He struggled quite a bit in the 1st half (I thought that was his worst half yet) but was really good late in the game. Hopefully, the coaching staff will learn from this and let him play football. The Bills should have at least Watkins and Williams back next week. That will help immensely. The Bengals are coming off an emotional win and are primed for a letdown. If the Bills can take that game next week they move to 4-2 with a game vs. Jax. They should certainly have a winning record at the break and could be as good as 5-2. They certainly need to keep improving if they want to be a playoff team but they are a pretty good (and deep) team at the moment.
Lenigmusx Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 A win is a win. Good teams find a way to win, even if it's ugly. But this offense is just getting worse. I don't know if it's adjustments or what I feared when we hired Roman, that he is a TE/RB guy that doesn't know how to use WR's. You can say that Shady is hurt, but he wasn't having good running games when playing. You can say that Watkins is out, but I'd take our WR's over the Titans today. I'm happy we are 3-2, but our defense can't be on the field like this. This is our 3rd game where the offense doesn't even show up in the first half and we have to rely on street ball to score. This was a team that, while on 13 days rest, was still supposed to be a solid win. I just don't know how to believe that we will beat and contenders this year based off what we've seen so far. You can say all of these things but remember it is all compounded. McCoy opened up the running game for Karlos in the early games and in turn the run game made the pass protection hold up well enough for Tyrod to get the ball to the wideouts. The wideouts were more open due to the double coverage and rolling safety's to account for Sammy. The missing skill players made a mediocre o-line seem better because that is what a good running game does. The Titans were able to send a lot of Blitz packages yesterday because of a lack of respect for our run game.
Chandler#81 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 TT is not a drop back QB. He is learning on the fly. They seem to realize he has to become one in order to consistently win. This is a experiment so we will have to see how it works. If we make the playoffs and he has to play w/o Sammy and Shady we are screwed. I would like to see EJ get a start at some point. I truly believe he moves the O better yesterday . Yeah, I said it Thankfully, no one's listening. Although, that was a HOF handoff yer boy did there..

Just one question Do you think that good teams dont win some of their games ugly? This team is still finding itself...it is emerging from 15 years of playoff drout.......last year with NO offense we were 9-7 THis year....the team is putting up points and had ONE game were they didnt......we are missing 3 of our top offensive players.....and we are 3-2.....we split with last years AFC Championship teams.....we have beaten Miami on the road......and we have a winning AFC record. The team SHOULD be 4 and 1 right now....but no moral victories....this is probably the best 3 and 2 team in the NFL I always thought the 12 win and 11 win predictions were too much with new coaches and systems.....my prediction was 10-6 and a wild card That is still very possible I feel you stopped reading after the first sentence as I said that with the very next line.

(on local TV in the DC area) I think the Bills will lose to the Bungles, so I'm not even worrying about the game. I can only be pleasantly surprised, if they win. But the Bungles are playing well and if they keep it up, challenge the Pats for the AFC crown.

The Poojer Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 and being led by a QB with 5 starts to his name....I am very optimistic Offense is minus McCoy, minus Watkins, Minus Karlos Williams. We played a RB that signed this week. I'll feel much better about the O when these guys return.
Chilly Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I'm going to hate this board if we go 3-3. People will start to panic until we beat Jacksonville and Miami, get to 5-3, and be halfway to 10-6. I expected a defensive football game and we got one. It's always going to be ugly when your offense is one dimensional and you're without the playmaker that makes defenses account for him in that dimension. And you're on the road against a good defensive football team who had two weeks to prepare. Ouch. I'd love to see us beat Cincinnati and think they are a little overrated, but we're going to need Sammy and Karlos to do it. And I think getting everyone healthy should be the goal over winning this weekend. I count this past weekend as hugely positive for us and hope we can get to 5-3 after the game vs Miami.
John from Riverside Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) I'll be more optimistic if they won convincingly next week Setting the bar pretty high there JSP A convincing win against a undefeated opponent on a hot streak ok then Edited October 12, 2015 by John from Hemet
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Going into this season we expected a defensive team that tries to force turnovers, and plays close games. And a ball control offense that runs the ball. When the ball control offense can't run - what you saw yesterday is what you get. A team forced to take shots when that is the last thing they want to do. The key going forward is to make the adjustment of finding hogan/watkins/clay for the intermediate gains - and taking what the other team gives you.
