BackInDaDay
agree - the safety injuries have been a big issue. We haven't had both starters in there for a whole game yet, and the drop off from starter to backup is evident. Fortunately we are looking to have both AW and Graham together again this week. Williams is a good competitor- but even on the play where he injured himself - he looked like a drunk in a revolving door
YoloinOhio
Williams is a good competitor- but even on the play where he injured himself - he looked like a drunk in a revolving doornot his best moment for sure. Good player though IMO especially in coverage, and really missed when he is out.
BackInDaDay
not his best moment for sure. Good player though IMO especially in coverage, and really missed when he is out. oh i agree that in the last couple seasons he's looked much better.. they threw alot of money at him because of that.. i'm just hoping him - and the rest of the unit can get on the same page consistently.. Rex's style of play presents new challenges, for sure
truth on hold
Then that's a year too late IMO. If the players are mismatched to the scheme, a smart coach CHANGES THE SCHEME TO SUIT WHAT HE HAS excuse me for shouting, not intended for you. That's especially true when he's gifted with truly elite to good players. theyre going to be a good defense this year, and they'll get better throughout the season. but my point is that we wont until next year see the full impact of Rex because like any new coach he needs a season to observe what he has, and make off season adjustments. One thing I see us needing is a more dynamic play making LB, our guys are good but not exceptional. No David Harris or ray Lewis on this squad Edited October 7, 2015 by JTSP
Hapless Bills Fan
The defense under Schwartz was so simple and it worked very well...sometimes you just need to let your players lineup and play instead of trying to be perfect with every call This. And yet....I don't think Schwartz' scheme was as simple as some people made it out. Compare and contrast with Wannstache (which legitimately was too simple), and reference Fat Albert's "Letter to Himself" encomium to Schwartz: "Your defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is a mastermind." it worked well sometimes but not always. And there were too few adjustments made when it wasn't working. Jmo. As opposed to the....right number? of adjustments made when it isn't working so far this season? truth on hold
Funny thing is our best showing on defense might have come on the road against miami. Where there's less crowd noise when our defense is on the field. Rex even made the comment after Indy game he didn't realize how loud it got at Ralph and they need to make adjustments on D to deal with it Edited October 8, 2015 by JTSP
