NoSaint Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 51 starts, dude. He is what he is. good player that cant carry a team on his shoulders solo? hes not a future HOF qb, but hes a solid nfl starter so far.
FireChan Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 He threw for 4,000 yards last year. What in the world are we talking about ? FC WAKE UP BRO, I need backup. I'm here, I'm here. Tanny is legit. He's not Aaron Roders, but he's an above average QB. Top ten in passing yards. Get it together folks. Lots of QB's have had stinkers against Buffalo lately, besides Tommy, I guess you don't see the double standard. If Tannehill was a Bills QB, you would be demanding he be cut by now. But because he's a Dolphin you keep fluffing him up even after the turd he laid yesterday. Ha ha ha ha ha. Of course we would. If Tyrod throws for 4k and 27 TD's, and we miss the playoffs, we'd definitely demand a cut. Can we please not point to the lunatic fringe for every single argument? It's so tiring.
4merper4mer Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 After all of that practice on downs 1-3, you'd think Taleywhacker might throw a decent fade on 4th down if through nothing other than random luck, but nope.
Captain Hindsight Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Captain Checkdown with a higher draft grade

Lots of QB's have had stinkers against Buffalo lately, besides Tommy, I suppose it depends how you define average doesn't it? Tannehill is in a category of guys you can win games but not Championships with for me that features Dalton, Alex Smith and possibly Nick Foles. I don't want to get into unhelpful comparisons with Tyrod because Tyrod is very much in the still to be determined camp... I am happy he is playing well he is entrenched as our starter but as for ranking him against the rest of the league it is just too soon. Edited September 28, 2015 by GunnerBill

eball Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 good player that cant carry a team on his shoulders solo? hes not a future HOF qb, but hes a solid nfl starter so far. If you read my breakdown upthread you see I didn't trash him or say he sucks...just that he is the definition of mediocre. There have been quite a few on this board touting him as a continually rising star.

There are about 36-40 starting QB's in the NFL each year, (by season's end). I have Tanny higher than Dalton, but at the same level as Smith, and that's over the 18-20 QB mark, thus "above average." I think it is so so early to claim you can't win a championship with Dalton or Tanny. Dalton looks like he's experiencing a rebirth. Smith went to an NFC championship. These players have long long careers. Is Tanny or Dalton gonna be Aaron Rodgers and drag a garbage team to a conference final? Probably not. Does that mean they'll never win? No way! I can rest easy knowing that a guy who's username is "FireChan" is holding out hope for Ryan Tannehill, and is telling me to "get it together". I wish we had a "baby crying" emoticon.

Kirby Jackson Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Tannehill is pretty average. That is not meant to be a knock. I think that on a good team he could manage games and help their cause. He hadn't thrown a pick in a while before yesterday. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and he doesn't make a lot of big plays. He's kind of like Alex Smith in that sense. You could certainly do worse than Tannehill but you can do better.

Smith went to an NFC Championship game and played pretty well. But he didn't win it. And that is kind of my point with all those guys. To be a better than average Quarterback you are going to have to have a special skill that can make that big play that is going to beat me when the biggest games are on the line. Kaepernick is arguably a worse passer than all three of those guys but his legs give him that special x factor. I don't think any of those 3 will ever win a Championship... there might be one or possibly 2 more Championship games in the future between the three of them but they will always come up short.
metzelaars_lives Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 If anyone only saw Tannehill play against the Bills the last four years, obviously they would think he sucks. If anyone looked at his numbers against teams not called the Bills, they would realize he is a steady emerging young QB. He will never be elite; he will, for the foreseeable future, be good enough to hold down a starting job in the NFL.

The question is whether he is a capable winner. Nothing that has happened so far (and I have watched both the Dolphins first 2 games in full in advance of this week and have seen plenty of them over the past 2 years - not so much his rookie year) indicates that he is.

Kaep never won a Super Bowl either.

As some on this board are fond of saying...the "tape don't lie."
GunnerBill Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Kaep never won a Super Bowl either. No I know. And I don't really think Kaep is good... as I said as a passer I think he is worse... but I won't completely rule out him winning a Championship because maybe someone can design such a read option friendly scheme that he stomps all over people with his feet one year... long shot though I agree. Odds are he never wins a Championship either.
