Sorry Pete, but the only way you would have had a chance in 2015 is if you had admitted everything to Giamatti in 1989 and then went on Barbara Walters and cried.

No HOF for Pete in his lifetime and probably no HOF for Pete in any of our lifetimes.

I'm certain that you have to be declared eligible by MLB or you cannot be in the Hall. If not, Shoeless Joe Jackson would likely be inducted by now based on his accomplishments as a player.

The HOF, even though it doesn't have an official affiliation with MLB, has always honored their banned players list. Shoeless Joe is a bigger travesty than Rose. But with Rose being alive, could they lift part of the ban. Basically saying he can be inducted, but still can't hold a coaching/front office job for any team? Give their "blessing" so to speak.

On Monday, commissioner Rob Manfred rejected Pete Rose's latest application for reinstatement. One of the reasons for the rejection was Rose's admission that he still bets "recreationally and legally" on horses and sports, including baseball.

Rose held a press conference on Tuesday -- appropriately enough in Las Vegas -- to discuss the rejection and other things. At one point he was asked why he continues to gamble even after it caused him to be expelled from baseball.

"I'm not a stockbroker guy, but it's similar. Gambling is just for pure enjoyment but I now have it under control " said Rose. "I live in Las Vegas because that's where my job is. You're probably the same as me -- I'm a recreational gambler. I don't bet every day. I'm not a casino guy. I don't play blackjack, roulette, dice, all that stuff.

I wonder if he'd be willing to vow not to bet on baseball if reinstated.

He obviously cannot help himself and it's too late now as he has sealed his own fate.

Or vow to only bet on baseball through Draft Kings, the official fantasy sports betting site of Major League Baseball.

It's not gambling! You just give them money that they pay you back plus some if you win, while guessing on the outcome of an event he has no direct control over. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
